A celebration of the life of Kenneth Hove, 89, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Steve Slaamot and Rev. Paul Osborne officiating. Organist will be Carolyn Fladland and soloist will be Josh Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Kenneth's grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Bonnie Sebek, Mark Hove and Deb Hook, Lonnie and Kalyn Hove, Julie and Dana Stapleton, Jill Waloch, Jenny Bergstrom, Denise and Shane Swenson, Lee and Amy Sebek, Andrew Sebek, Rachel Hove, Hope Stapleton, Tanner Stapleton, Megan Hove, Samantha Waloch, Brooke Hove, Matthew Hove, Hailey Waloch, Carson Sebek, and Keslar Swenson.. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 from 1:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 prayer service at Cahill Funeral Chapel and also one hour prior to the services at the church.
Kenneth was born on January 2, 1920 at Grenville, South Dakota to Lars and Hilma (Johnson) Hove. Kenneth was baptized at Zoar Lutheran Church and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church. He attended country school in One Road Township. After his education he worked for local area farmers. He joined the CC camp in the Black Hills at age 17 and served there for one year. He returned to the Sisseton area to work for farmers. Kenneth married Agnes Skogen on August 21, l94l at Ortonville, MN. The couple farmed and ranched in the Sisseton area for 60 years. He was a long time member of Hope Lutheran Church where Kenneth served various offices, after the church closed they attended the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Sisseton, SD. Kenneth served on the Township Boards, election boards and served on the Sisseton Credit Union Board. He enjoyed riding horseback and driving his favorite team Babe and Dolly. He also enjoyed card playing, ice fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed coffee and visiting with neighbors at the Buffalo Lake Resort. Kenneth and Agnes entered Greenleaf Assisted Living Center in 2005 where Kenneth enjoyed bowling, playing cards and entertaining everyone with his humor and a smile. In July of 2008 they entered the Tekakwitha Living Center and on January 10, 2009 Kenneth passed away peacefully at Coteau Des Prairie Hospital with his family at his side.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Agnes of Sisseton, SD; three children Karen and husband Leo Sebek of Claire City, SD, Calvin and wife Vivian Hove of Sisseton, SD and Debbie and husband Jerry Bergstrom of Lisbon, ND; 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers Leonard, Howard, Virgil, Clayton and Dennis; two sisters Barbara and Marlys; and one granddaughter Sarah.
