Funeral Service for Kathryn Marie (Campbell) Meland, 44, of Sioux Falls, SD will be held on Friday, December 19, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at St. James' Episcopal Church, Enemy Swim, SD with the Rev. Charles Chan and Rev. Les Campbell Officiating. Pallbearers will be Lars Meland, Robert Rencountre, Josh Rencountre, Austin IronStar, Jason Severson, Iver Campbell Jr., and Brady Roberts. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronnette Holmes, Sally Neilan, Shannon Lefthand, Joni Anderson, Maureen Tracey, Faye Lefthand, Sonia Rouillard, Jody Rencountre, Nanette Rockwood, Thelma White, Maria Gill, Kim Richards, Cindy Wika, Janice Lyons, and all of Kathryn's close friends & relatives. Pianist will be Kay Burshiem. Interment will be in St. James' Episcopal Cemetery, Enemy Swim, SD. There will be a family service on Tuesday, December16, 2008 at 7:00 P.M., with a wake service on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 7:00 P.M., and an all night wake on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. at St. James' Guild Hall, Enemy Swim, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Kathryn Marie Campbell was born on February 27, 1964 in Sisseton, SD to Roger Newton and Ruth (Cloud) Campbell. She grew up and attended school in Waubay, SD. Following her education she attended Stewarts School of Hairstyling in Aberdeen, SD. She worked in Sioux Falls, Waubay and Aberdeen for the BIA, and at Webster at the Alco Store. Kathryn was united in marriage to her longtime friend, Steve Meland on March 17, 2006 at Little Eagle, SD. She liked to play cards, pool, sew, bake and care for her grandchildren and ride horses. Kathryn passed away on December 14, 2008 at her home in Sioux Falls, SD with her family at her side after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Kathryn is survived by her husband, Steve Meland of Sioux Falls, SD, her mother, Ruth Campbell of Waubay, SD; one daughter, Kristin Campbell of Watertown, SD, two step children, Lars Meland and Tanya Meland of Sioux Falls, SD; three sisters, Lori Campbell, Destiny Campbell, and Desmona Campbell all of Waubay, SD; six brothers, Robert Campbell of Sioux Falls, SD, Iver Campbell Sr. of Watertown, SD, Steve Kongi of Ames, IA, Justin Kongi of Waubay, SD, Destry Campbell of Keystone, IA, and Desi Campbell of Summit, SD; and two grandchildren.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her father, one daughter, Christin, one sister Melodie, one brother, Jacob and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
