Kathleen (Cameron) Cook passed away at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, South Dakota on January 8, 2025. Kathleen wished there to be no public services. There will be a family service at her chosen location in the spring.

Kathleen was born to Milton Cameron and Shirley (Talley) Cameron on May 22, 1949 at the Tekakwitha Hospital in Sisseton, SD. She was baptized and confirmed in the First Presbyterian Church in Sisseton.

She attended kindergarten through 12th grade in Sisseton, graduating from Sisseton High School with the class of 1967. Kathleen attended the University of South Dakota, graduating in 1971 with majors in English and Journalism.

Kathleen's first job after graduating from USD was at the Fort Walton Beach Florida Paper where she worked 6 day weeks for $100.00 per week. From there she worked briefly in Denver, Co. before moving to Butte, Montana in the fall of 1972 to become a reporter for the Montana Standard, a daily newspaper. At Butte she met Burl Cook, who was a printer for the paper. They were married on May 25, 1973 in Idaho Falls, ID, and Kathleen gained an instant family- stepsons Kevin, Joe and Brent. The family spent many weekends tent camping, hiking and fishing in the mountains of southwestern Montana.

In 1976 Burl and Kathleen moved to Galveston, TX, where Kathleen was the publicist for Galveston college. They next moved to Centralia, WA where Kathleen was a reporter for the Daily Chronicle. They returned to Montana in 1978 and purchased a general store, The Jackson Mercantile in Jackson.

They both missed newspaper work, so they sold the Jackson Mercantile in 1983 and moved to Aberdeen, SD to work for the Aberdeen American News. Their next move was to Rosholt, SD where they purchased the Rosholt Review from Mel Farrington. In 1999 they sold the Rosholt Review, but stayed on their farmstead south of Rosholt until 2003, when they moved to Milbank, SD.

Kathleen made a point of repeating how thankful she was to the staff of the Tekakwitha Living Center and the staff of Prairie Lakes Hospice/Palliative Care for the thoughtful and attentive care they gave her. The family thanks Cahill Funeral Chapel for their help and consideration.

Kathleen is survived by stepsons, Kevin Cook, Joe Cook and Brent Cook, her brother, Kerry Cameron and his wife, Mary Ann and their children, Christopher, Michael, Erin and Daniel and four grand nieces and nephews.
