Funeral Service for Kathleen Marie Barse, 76, of Peever, South Dakota will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Fr. Gregg Frankmann and Fr. Ken Lulf officiating. Drum group will be. The pianist will be Billy Kohl. Soloist will be Butch Felix. Pallbearers will be Jay Barse, Jayden Barse, Christian Barse, Dylan Wegleitner, Christopher Barse, Tracii Barse, Latrell Finley, and LeBron Finley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Angie Johnson, Lorraine German, Merle RedBear, Brenda Solberg, CHR and MCH Staff, Maynard Beaudreau, Thompson Girls, Crystal Owen, Michelle Seaboy, Debbie Adams, Denise Stebbing, Donna Hart, and All of Kathy's Family and Friends. There will be a Wake service will be on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Hall, Sisseton, SD from 7-9:00 P.M. There will be an All-Night Wake service will be on May 29, 2024, at the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Hall, Sisseton, SD starting at 7:00 P.M. Interment will be at the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Veterans Cemetery, Sisseton, SD following the service. Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Kathleen Marie Barse, Upi Maza Win "Beautiful Fitting Necklace Woman" was born on October 31, 1947, in Sisseton, South Dakota to Elijah and Clara DeMarrias-Eagle. She began her education at the Tekakwitha Orphanage then later the Sisseton School District. Kathy graduated High School from Immaculate Conception Catholic Boarding School in Stephan, South Dakota. After graduation, she attended Sisseton Wahpeton College and obtained an A.A degree. Kathy worked for Child Protection Services in Sisseton for about 3 years. Then, she worked as a Community Health Representative for about 20 years until she retired. Kathy loved to travel. She had traveled to almost every state in the United States. During a few of her high school years, she had lived in Chicago and California. Kathy enjoyed visiting with family and friends and driving around while listening to music. She loved music. Kathy dedicated most of her life to taking care of her husband. She also took great pride in taking care of her grandchildren. Kathy was a devoted Dakota woman. She was united in marriage to Leslie Barse Sr., and was the beloved mother of Leslie Barse Jr., Lydell Barse, Lawren Barse, LaRae (Randy) Richter, Loni (Terrance) Robertson, and Lona Barse. Kathy was also a proud grandmother of Jaimie, Jay, Jordyn, Jasmin, Jermaine, Jayne, Jayden, Christopher, Tracii, Lawren Jr., Lukas, Elijah, Christian, Amber, Dylan, Hayley, Sierra, Taeden, Randy Jr., Noah, Phoenix, Larry III, Latrelle, LeBron, Lariah, Layden, Ivy, and Terrance Jr as well as 44 great-grandchildren. Kathy passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Society in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on May 22, 2024, due to a battle with cancer.
Kathleen is survived by her children; Lydell Barse of Minneapolis MN, Lawren Barse of Peever, SD, LaRae Richter of Sisseton, SD, Lona Barse of Peever, SD Christian Barse of Peever, SD, Alex Finley of Peever, SD; grandchildren Jaimie, Jasmine, Jermaine, Jaynie, Jay, Jayden, Christopher, Tracii, Lukas, Elijah, Christian, Amber, Dylan, Sierra, Taeden, Randy Jr., Noah, Phoenix, Larry III, Latrelle, Ivy and Terrance; 44 great-grandchildren; brother Patrick (Kelly) Eagle of Fargo, ND; sisters Bernadine Gaikowski of Sisseton, SD, Charlotte Grey of Sioux Falls, SD, and Donna (Merle) RedBear of Waubay, SD; and All who loved her unconditionally.
Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents Elijah and Clara Eagle; her husband Leslie Barse Sr.; daughter Loni Barse-Robertson; son Leslie Barse Jr.; granddaughters Hayley Wegleitner and Jordyn Barse; grandson Lawren Barse Jr.; brothers Marty Eagle, Francis Eagle, Elijah Eagle Jr., and Ron Owen; sisters Marcella Eagle, Florence Eagle, Theodora Eagle, and Nadine Anderson
