Graveside funeral services for Karen Lee Heminger, will be Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at 2pm at the Ascension Presbyterian Church cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Milton Owen and Rev. Mike Owen. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic no wakes will be held. There will be a viewing at the Cahill Funeral Chapel starting at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. At 1:30 pm the funeral procession will then proceed to the Ascension Presbyterian Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wayne Heminger Jr., Terry Heminger, Michael Robertson, Christian Robertson, Justin Heminger, Kenny German, Garrett White, Enrique Pagan, Antonio Pagan, and James German. Honorary Pallbearers will be Morgan and Darlene Redday, Curt RedEarth, Darrell Renville, Opal Renville, Ferm Backer, Carol Schoenrock, Sophrona Crawford, Jessie Larson, Ruth Bird, Joni & Perry Mahpiyasna, Kenda Collins, and Kerry Bird. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Karen Lee Bird-Heminger was born on January 4, 1948 to Laura Renville-Bird and Samuel Bird. She attended grade school in Peever, SD and graduated in 1967 from Sisseton High School. After high school she attended cosmetology school in Aberdeen, SD for one year. She moved back home and met the love of her life, Terry Heminger. They became parents to Wayne Heminger Sr., Candida Owen, and Michael Heminger. On July 6th, 1997 Karen and Terry were united in marriage. Her favorite past times were watching her shows, cooking, reading, and gambling.
Karen is survived by her children. Wayne (Carlisa) Heminger of Peever, Candida (Dennis) Owen of Big Coulee, Michael (Kathleene) Heminger of Peever, and two grand children that she raised, Elsie (James) German, and Wayne Heminger Jr. both of Peever, two sisters Lilie Mae Lawrence of Agency Village and Sylvia (Mike) Owen of Peever, and many grand children and great-grandchildren.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Terry Heminger, two great-grandaughters, Giselle German and Renetta Robertson, two sisters, Beverly Divine, Thelma Lawrence, five brothers, Sylvester, Kenneth, Milton, Curtis and Lincoln Bird.
God truly blessed us with the world's best grandma and great-grandma. She was loved by many and will be truly missed.
