Funeral Mass for Julius "Knute" Joseph Hedrick, 83, of Browns Valley, MN will be held on Monday, November 22, 2010, at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Browns Valley, MN with the Rev. Fr. Joe Vandeberg Celebrant. Organist will be Norma Jung with music by the St. Anthony's Church Choir. Pallbearers will be Tommy, Joe, and Bobby Hedrick, Larry and Bob Peterson, and Don Johnson. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Browns Valley, MN. Military Rites will be provided by the William Kensing American Legion Post #58. There will be a visitation on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Browns Valley, MN with a 7:00 PM Prayer and Rosary Service. There will be visitation Monday, one hour prior to the Funeral Mass at the Church.
Julius Joseph Hedrick was born on August 6, 1927 in Becker Township, Roberts County, SD to Emil and Pauline (Determan) Hedrick. He grew up and attended school in Browns Valley, MN. He was married to Marie Coleman. Julius entered the US Air Force on February 28, 1950 and served until July 31, 1970 retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. He served 5 overseas tours in 20 years. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars. Julius was employed by the US Post Office in Myrtle Beach, SC from1971 until 1983. Julius returned to Browns Valley, MN and worked for the Post Office as a carrier from 1985 until 1989. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cards, coaching sports and the Minnesota Twins. Julius was a Life Time Member of the Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3343, William Kensing American Legion Post #58, St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and The Postal Union. Julius entered the Browns Valley Health Care Center in 2008. Julius passed away on November 17, 2010 at the Browns Valley Health Center.
Julius is survived by two children, Mitchell Hedrick of Hilton Head Island, SC and Sherry Caudle of North Myrtle Beach, SC; three sisters Shirley Rolstad of Sisseton, SD, Helen Peterson of Browns Valley, MN, and Ione Domarus of Tomahawk, WI; and three brothers, Glen Hedrick of Browns Valley, MN, Harry Hedrick of La Palma, CA and Pat Hedrick of Clackamas, OR.
Julius was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John Hedrick, one sister, Mary DeMacy and one grandson, Paul Jonathan Caudle.
