Funeral service for Jr. Iverson, 90, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Peever Lutheran Church, Peever, SD at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Kay Reeb officiating. Organist will be Amy Currence and Special Music by Wade Johnson. There will be a visitation from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. before the service at the church. Pall Bearers will be Austin DesLauriers, Adam DesLauriers, Dylan DesLauriers, Collin Fitz, Andrew Fitz, and Logan Iverson. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Jr.'s 12 Grandchildren and 29 Great-Grandchildren. Military Rites provided by Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Ft Sisseton VFW Post #3342. Interment will be at the One Road Bethel Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Irvin Stanley Iverson Jr., known affectionately as "Junior" to all who loved him, passed away at the age of 90 on May 29, 2026, at the Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton, South Dakota. As he passed, his beloved wife and best friend of 65 years, Darlene, was right by his side, holding his hand.

Born on December 3, 1935, in Sisseton to Irvin Sr. and Marie (Herigstad) Iverson, Junior's roots were always firmly planted in South Dakota. He attended country school at Red Iron #2 through the eighth grade and later proudly served his country in the National Guard.

On August 19, 1960, Junior married Darlene Valnes at Bethel One Road Lutheran Church. Together, they shared a beautiful, devoted marriage, standing side-by-side as best friends through all of life's seasons and building a family that would become his absolute greatest joy.

A hardworking man with an incredibly steady hand, Junior dedicated 42 years to his craft as a finish blade operator, spending the majority of his career with Dave Gustafson Construction. He was known as one of the finest blade operators in the state; as a coworker once perfectly put it, "he could slide a quarter across one side of the blacktop to the other without gouging it." While his work building roads took him to Sioux Falls for eight years and to numerous other towns and states, his heart never really left Sisseton. When he finally retired at the age of 67, he happily traded the construction sites for the pastures, embracing farm life and raising cattle.

Junior appreciated the simple things in life. He loved to tinker and work with his hands, spending countless hours constructing some of the coolest welded creations, which were proudly showcased throughout his farm. When he wasn't welding, he enjoyed cheering on the Minnesota Twins and relaxing to a good Western. His days were often set to the comforting sounds of old-time country music, especially his favorites, George Jones and Johnny Cash. He was also a member of the Peever Lutheran Church.

But above all his hobbies and hard work, Junior's true love was his family. His kids were his absolute everything, and he simply could not have been a prouder father. As the years went on, his 12 grandchildren became the light of his life, and he felt endlessly amazed and truly blessed to welcome 29 great-grandchildren into the world.

He leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and is deeply missed by his wife, Darlene; his children, Lori (Pat "Freddie") Fitz of Sisseton, SD, Rory (Sherry) Iverson of Sisseton, SD, Kam (Tim) DesLauriers of Doland, SD; his 12 grandchildren and his 29 great-grandchildren. Junior is also survived by his sisters, Sharon and Barb; several nephews and nieces, and a host of cousins and dear friends.

Junior is now reunited in peace with his grandson, Tel Iverson; his parents, Irvin Sr. and Marie; his maternal and paternal grandparents; as well as his sisters, brother-in-laws, nephews, cousins, and other cherished family members who preceded him in death.

Jr.'s family would like to thank everyone for their support and gift of time and memorials given to our family. In lieu of the fees to send thank you cards, we will be donating those funds to One Road Bethel Cemetery.
