Joy was born to Stanley & Valerie (Blueshield) Paul on September 14, 1988 in Devils Lake, ND.  She got her name from her Grandmother Joyce Young and Marie from her other Grandmother Karen Marie Paul.  Joy attended school in Veblen during her elementary years.  Later she moved on to Moorhead schools. She later had her first son. She was very proud of him and all of his accomplishments. She was his #1 cheerleader. Joy loved music of all kinds.  She would light up a room and when she was present you would just know she was there.  She definitely lived up to her Dakota name. Now she is lighting up the stars. Her love for animals was huge. She especially loved cats.  She helped deliver her baby kitties even if it took all night she stayed with her.  She enjoyed a night out at the casino, or just to visit with family.  The summer was her favorite, going to the lake, swimming, having picnics and visiting whoever stopped by to say hi.  She always offered whatever she had to eat, drink, or just conversation.  Joy would light up their day with just simple things.  Snap chatting with her cat or video chatting was always fun and up lifting. She went to be with the Lord on May 27, 2023 with her family surrounding her at McKennan Avera Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 34.

Joy is survived by her husband Jose Hurtado Sotomayor; sons Yohana Wambdisapa, Israel Wambdiska, Luis Angel, Julian Joseph; daughters Keyalyn Karen, Emily Raynette, Jose Jr. and Bernice; one granddaughter; her parents Stanley and Valerie Paul; brother Elijah Green; sisters  Denyce Reyes (Abdirashid Omar) Donna Langstaff and Heather Paul (Faruka Lutwama), Shandy (Brayden) Paul; Pops Alan Lott, Mom Dee Lott; Aunts Carolyn (Bill) Cavanaugh, Verna Paul, Donna Paul, Renae St. John, June Blueshield, Sheila Blueshield, Darla (Larry) Thiele; Karen (Kenny) Longie, Adeline (Duane) Jackson, Joan (Troy) Red Fox, Monica DuBois, Lorna (Ron) Walking Eagle, Delilah Blueshield, Lynette Perez, Tammy Greywater, Ester Hopkins; uncles Herbert Blueshield Jr., David Paul, Dennis Paul, Emerson & Kenny St. John; Alvin Blueshield and Harlan Blueshield; numerous cousins to many to mention.

Joy my baby, you will be missed by us all.  I will miss your daily talks and texts. Like
"Mom what's for supper over there and you would make the same and say you was eating supper with us".  We will take care of your babies.
