Joshua Lucas Hofland, (Na-ghi-ton-Ka-wa-ci-Hoksi-na) Big Shadow Dancer, 27, of Sisseton, SD passed away on September 28, 2011 from injuries received in a one vehicle accident near Veblen, SD. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with the Rev. Vern Donnell and Pastor Richard Felch officiating. Special music will be provided by Old Agency Drum Group, Billy Kohl, and Cynthia LaBatte. Pallbearers will be Joey Adams, Wade Hofland, Nick LaCroix, Aaron Henning, Jon Yost, Josh Cunningham, Brian Tyler, Andy Williams, Clark Ringsaker, and Bud White. Honorary pallbearers will be Keenan Jennings, Stanley Holman, Robert Hofland, Lance Hofland, Isaac Adams, and all of Joshua's family and friends. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery. There will be wake services on Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 PM at the Tribal Community Center. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Joshua Lucas Hofland was born on August 28, 1984 at Sisseton, SD to Leah Hofland. Joshua spent his childhood in Sisseton and Claire City, SD. He attended school in Sisseton and completed his GED in 2002. Josh worked various construction jobs and was currently employed by C.R. Concrete. He was a hard working man and devoted most of his time to work. Josh loved being with his family and friends. He liked to hunt and ride ATV. He could fix anything he put his mind to, and he loved working on his truck and his other cars before that. He will be greatly missed by all.
Joshua is survived by his mother Leah Hofland and step-father Daniel Williams of Sisseton, SD, one sister Diamond Rose Patricia Williams of Sisseton, SD and his Maternal grandparents Patricia Hofland, Roger and Mary Hofland all of Claire City, SD, and special friend Sarah LaBatte.
Joshua was preceded in death by his maternal great –grandparents Frances and James Monson.
