Funeral Mass for Joseph Lee Wanna, 61, of Alexandria, MN will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Jerome Ranek officiating. Organist will be Billy Kohl. Pallbearers will be Chris Wanna, Matthew Wanna, Melford Mudgett, Felipe 'Pito' Torres, Alfonso 'Joe" Seals and Jason Wanna. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mary Helen Najera, Nathan Golden, Thompson Sisters, Marsha Renville, Mona Williams and many more. Interment will be in St. Matthew's Catholic Cemetery, Veblen, SD with Military Rites by the Vietnam Veterans. There will be an All night wake on Friday, March 6th at St. Catherine's Hall with a 8:00 P.M. Scripture Service.
Joseph was born on November 12, 1953 at St. Paul, MN to Leo and Mary (Zapata) Wanna. He attended school at Cathedral & Crowley through the 6th grade. He served in the Marines from December 7, 1972 to December 16, 1974. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. After military service he made his home in St. Paul, MN until moving to Sisseton in 2000. In 2008 he moved to Alexandria, MN. He loved music, movies, family and friends. He will be missed by family and friends. Joseph died on February 26, 2015 at Douglas County Hospital, Alexandria, MN.
Joseph is survived by one daughter, Tina Hicks of St Paul, MN; four sisters, Patricia (Victor Ortiz) Wanna of Alexandria, MN; Roseann (Angel) Torres of Alexandria, MN; Agnes (Edward Meyers) Golden of St. Paul, MN and Anita Wanna of St. Paul, MN and one brother Anthony (Catherine) Wanna of St. Paul, MN; one granddaughter, one great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Xavier Wanna and Howard Lawrence Wanna, three sisters Mary Jane Drum, Elizabeth Wanna and Ramona Wanna.
