Joseph Darrell Peterson Sr. the son of Charles and Lorreta (Beaudreau-Lawrence) Peterson, was born on July 29, 1940 in Hillhead, SD. He resided in Veblen where he attended school until the 7 th grade to support his grandma Josephine. Joseph enlisted in the US Army and served from 1962 to 1968. He was honorably discharged as a SPC 4. He did two tours in Korea as an artillery specialist. After he was discharged, he then worked various jobs. He worked for the Jolly Green Giant plant in Belvidere, Illinois. He also worked in West Bend in Wisconsin as a high boom forklift operator. But his last job was working for the Dakota Magic Casino as a facility specialist (porter) for 11.5 years. He met Debra Wanna in Old Agency at a family gathering where he fell deeply in love with her and they united in marriage July 9, 1976. He loved working on his cars, and helping others. He also loved to play guitar and sing, fish, play, and pool. He liked to travel and listen to music. He loved to play dice games with his kids. He loved to gamble and most of all he loved his dogs (Chubs, Dougie, Rusty). In his last hours, he was very worried about them.
