Obituary

Funeral Service for Jolene Marie Barse, 57 of Agency Village, SD will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with the Rev. Fr. Norman Volk, OMI, Rev. Charles Chan, Pastor Jerome Renville, and John Cloud III officiating. Organist will be Kay Bursheim and Billy Kohl. Pallbearers will be Philip Barse, Jeremy Barse, Ernie Barse Jr., Eammon Barse, Elliot Barse, Jessie Chanku, Jason LaFontaine, Bud White, Russell Barse, Jay Adams, Joseph Adams, and Thomas Adams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Xana Sharpfish, Alexis Larsen, Canaan Renville, Ayianna Wellnitz, Elias Barse, Devree Barse, Sharla Max, Lila Renville, Collette Drum, Elizabeth Barse, Amy Trevino, Lesley LaFontaine, Jennifer Adams, Kathryn Adams, Amber Adams, Terri DuMarce, and Phylene Big Man. Interment will be in St. Mary's Episcopal Cemetery, Agency village, SD. There will be a wake service on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 7:00 PM at St. Catherine's Hall, and an all night wake on Friday, September 4, 209 at 7:00 PM at St. Catherine's Hall. Jolene Marie Adams was born on September 12, 1951 in Sisseton, SD to J. Kenneth and Carole (Bursheim) Adams. Jolene attended school at Crow Agency in Montana, and graduated from High School in 1969 at Hardin, MT. Following high school Jolene attended a Business College at Billings, MT. In 1970 she moved to Sisseton, SD. Jolene was united in marriage to Randolph Barse in 1973, and to this union one son, Jeremy Barse was born. In 1978 Jolene was united in marriage to Ernest Barse Sr., they made their home in Old Agency. In 1984 Jolene graduated from Sisseton Wahpeton Community College with a degree in Business Management. Jolene worked for the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate as executive secretary, bingo manager, administrative assistant handling youth programs, and finally Energy Assistance Coordinator. She enjoyed flower gardening, bingo, knitting, crocheting, reading, spending time with her grandchildren and her father. She liked to watch the news, Law & Order, and NCIS. She was famous for her dry corn. Jolene passed away on September 1, 2009 at Abbot Northwest, Minneapolis, MN.
Jolene is survived by nine children, Philip (Desirae)Barse of Peever, SD, Jeremy Barse of Peever, SD, Frances Jessie) Chanku of Watertown, SD, Eammon Barse of Peever, SD, Elliot Barse of Peever, SD, Ernest Barse Jr. of Watertown, SD, Leila Redday of Old Agency Village, SD, Sheila Barse of Browns Valley, MN, and Tonya Kampeska of Lake Traverse, SD; her parents, J. Kenneth and Carole Adams of Peever, SD; two brothers, Jay Adams and Thomas Adams of Sisseton, SD; four sisters, Lesley LaFontaine and Jennifer Adams of Sisseton, SD, Kathryn Adams and Amber Adams of Peever, SD; six grandchildren, Xana Sharpfish, Alexis Larsen, Canaan-Jerome Renville, Ayianna Wellnitz, Elias and Devree Barse; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Jolene was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, one daughter, Faline Barse and one grandson, Jessie Chanku Jr.
