Funeral Mass for John E. Truesdell, 76 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Fr. Jerry Ranek, Celebrant and organist Colette Hull and song leader Cindy Marohl with special music by Josh Anderson. Pallbearers will be Joshua Spielman, Clint Spielman, Darren Spielman, Jason Holman, Joel Heilman and Ben Hanson. Honorary Pallbearers will be John's grandchildren, great-grand children, Davey Ceroll, and the Teamster's. Visitation will be at Cahill Funeral Chapel on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 5:00 PM with a time to share at 6:00 PM and a prayers service at 7:00 PM. John will take his last wagon ride with a team of horses to interment at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.
John Earl Truesdell was born at home on August 8, 1940, in Emmet County, Iowa, the second of eight children of Florence Theresa (Wempe) and Oliver Altoft Truesdell. He graduated from high school in Welcome, MN in 1958. He worked at Super Sweet Seeds in Estherville, Iowa and in 1961 began working at grain elevators. He became manager in 1967, managing in Spencer, SD, Rutland, SD, Nunda, SD, Colman, SD and Sisseton, SD; retiring in 2005.
On April 4, 1959, John was married to Barbara Doris Gettler at Sherburn, MN. To this union were born five children, David John in 1959, Cherylyn Rose in 1960, Theresa Vi in 1962, Paul Clyde in 1964 and Mark Oliver in 1970.
John enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, hunting, camping, roping and Teamsters. He especially enjoyed roping with Barbara on special occasions, whether it be -30 or 100 degree weather. He enjoyed antiques including old cars, trucks, tractors, and "his wife Barbara". His favorite hobby was working with Bobby Hanson at the farm, planning what and where they would plant. The highlights of his life were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife Barbara of Sisseton, SD; son David (Donna) of Stickney, SD; daughters Cheri (Guy) Spielman of Centerville, SD, Terri (Richard) White of Sisseton, SD; eight grandchildren Emily, Danielle (Joel), Joshua (Kelly), Clint, Darren, Jason, Savannah (Justin) and Ricki; seventeen great-grandchildren; brothers Bill (Mary Kaye) Truesdell of Sherburn, MN and Tony (Lori) Truesdell of Sherburn, MN; sisters Mary Knapp of Fairmont, MN, Ann (Dan) Terfehr of Fairmont, MN, Millie (Richard) Garbers of Welcome, MN; sister in-law JoDi Truesdell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons Mark and Paul; grandchild Jamie Spielman; sister Rosie and brother Bob.
