Funeral Service for John Scott Rondell, 64, of Waubay, South Dakota will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at St James Episcopal Church, Waubay, SD with Rev. Charles Chan,  Rev. Conrad Ciesel, Deacon Bitsey Ciesel and St. James Lay Readers officiating. Pianist will be Billy Kohl. Honor Song by Smokey and Robin Bowen.  Pall Bearers will be Calvin Cadotte, Francis Cadotte, BJ Cadotte, Elijah Rondell, Chris Rondell, Stefan Shepherd, Sean Shepherd and Curtis Rondell-Szoktor.  Honorary Pall Bearers will be Jeff Shepherd, Russell Owen, Elroy "Munson" LeBeau, Sam Kitto, Leonard Owens, Paul "Chippy" Smith, Ron Campbell, Bruce Anderson, Kevin Roberts, Frank Redwing, Tom Janisch, Ryan Barnhardt, and Weston Quinn.  Interment will be in the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Veterans Cemetery, Sisseton, SD with Military Honors by Kit Fox Society and Sisseton Wahpeton American Legion Post #314.  There will be an All Night Wake on Thursday, November 2, 2023 starting at 7:00 P.M. at the St James Episcopal Guild Hall. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.

John was born to Calvin and Nellie (Owen) Rondell in Sisseton, South Dakota on October 27, 1959. He graduated from the Waubay High School in 1978. After school, John joined the Army and served from 1983 to 1987. For many years, he worked at various places in the gaming industry. John started as a porter at the Dakota Sioux Casino and worked his way up to General Manager. He was currently the Associate Manager at the Dakota Connection Casino. Outside of work, John had many hobbies. He loved to golf with friends, read, watch sports on the ESPN channel, work out, go out to eat, and go to the movie theater with his daughter Jennifer at least a couple times a month. John was a lifelong member of the St. James Church. He also was a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew's. John S. Rondell was called home on October 29, 2023 in Waubay, South Dakota.

John is survived by his daughter Jennifer Rondell of Waubay, SD and son Douglas Rencountre of  Sisseton, SD; sisters Valorie Augustson, Waubay, SD and Irene Rondell, Enemy Swim, SD; brothers Jeff Shepherd of Sisseton, SD, Owen Rondell of Watertown, SD and James Rondell of Bridgewater, SD; and many cousins and their families.

John was preceded in death by his father Calvin Rondell and his mother Nellie Owen Rondell; a son Jesse Rondell, sisters Francie Rondell and Jessica Rondell; brother Frederick Rondell; nieces April Rondell and Lynn Rondell; paternal grandparents John and Jessie Rondell; and maternal grandparents James and Sarah Owen.
