Obituary

Funeral Service for J. Gene Mussetter, 77, of North Branch, MN formerly of Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. William Schruba officiating. Organist will be Mona Greseth and Soloist Pat Schubert. Pallbearers will be John's grandchildren. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD, at a later date. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 11, 2011 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Cahill Funeral Chapel. There will be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday. John Gene Mussetter was born on March 8, 1933 at Sisseton, SD to Lynn and Violet (Sykora) Mussetter. Gene grew up in Roberts County and attended country school. Following his education he joined the United States Army and served from April 1950 to May 1953. Gene was united in marriage to Loretta Herrick in November of 1956 at Sisseton, SD. They moved to Cottage Grove, MN where they raised their family. Gene was a heavy equipment operator at Northwestern Oil Refinery for twenty five years and was a member of the 49's union for over forty years. After retiring he moved to Mille Lacs Lake, MN. He liked to fish and hunt, and enjoyed passing these skills onto his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed woodworking, and made many beautiful keepsakes. Gene passed away on February 6, 2011 at Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center, Wyoming, MN with his family at his side.
Gene is survived by five children, Lola and Gene Lewandowski of Forman, ND, Gary Mussetter of Cottage Grove, MN, Dan and Tammy Mussetter of Wyoming, MN, John and Donna Mussetter of North Branch, MN and Joel and Renee Mussetter of North Branch, MN; three brothers, Herbert and Dorothy Mussetter of Sisseton, SD, Donald Mussetter of Florida, Lynn and Karen Mussetter of North Carolina; and six sisters, Viola and John Raddatz of Minnesota, Vivian Monson of Veblen, SD, Evelyn and John Plut of Washington, Kathleen and Don Johnson of Texas, Arlene and Nathan Manley of MN, and Virginia and Doyle Olsen of Sioux Falls, SD; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one infant daughter, one sister, and one brother-in-law.
