Obituary

Funeral Service for Joel C. Jaspers, 75, of Eden, SD will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eden, SD with the Rev. Fr. Daniel Smith officiating. Organist will be Mary Wagner with special music by the Sacred Heart Choir and Georgia Streier. Pallbearers will be George Krista, Dennis Balik, Monte Lowry, Steven Jaspers, Ron Jaspers, and Chuck Pitzen. Honorary Pallbearers will be the first responders from February 14, 2013. Interment will be in the St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Eden, SD. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post #267 of Grenville, SD. There will be visitation on Friday, September 4, 2015 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Cahill Funeral Chapel then from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Joel Christian Jaspers was born on June 10, 1940 at Sisseton, SD to Christian and Elizabeth (Krista) Jaspers. He attended school at Eden #6 country school, Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1958. Joel worked on the farm for several years before entering the U.S. Army where he served from August 20, 1963 until August 19, 1965. Joel was stationed in Korea for one year. He received the good conduct medal, and several expert rifle marksman badges. After his honorable discharge, Joel attended Alexandria Vo-Tech. He began working in Minneapolis, MN for the F.M.C. Company where he was employed for over 30 years. After his retirement Joel returned to the farm at Eden, SD where he lived with his sister Betty. Joel liked to hunt and fish. He also liked to travel, taking several trips with his sisters and cousin Marge, stopping to visit relatives along the way. He returned to Minnesota and Iowa regularly to visit family. Joel passed away on August 29, 2015 at Tekakwitha Nursing Center in Sisseton, SD. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Tekakwitha Nursing Center, or a charity of your choice.
Joel is survived by three sisters, Sister Chrishelle Jaspers of Rochester, MN, Elizabeth Jaspers of Eden, SD, and Mary and Jim Balik of Waterloo, IA, one sister-in-law, RoseMary Jaspers of Blaine, MN, five nieces and nephews, JoBeth and Monte Lowry of Ramsey, MN, Barb and Greg Czywczynski of Prior Lake, MN, Anna and Eric Blahnik of Andover, MN, Steven and Leann Jaspers of Coon Rapids, MN and Darci Ritter of Waterloo, IA, and several great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James and Jerome, and one sister, Sister Kristin.
