Obituary

Funeral Service for Joanne (Plut) Fix, 87, of Grove, OK will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with the Reverend Father Jerry Ranek Celebrant. Organist will be Colette Hull and song leader will be Sandi Jaspers. Pallbearers will be Jacob White, Dan Plut, Sylvan Fix, Jared Porter, Nate Kupko, and Mark Rice. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Plut and all of Joanne's cousins, nieces, and nephew. There will be visitation one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of the arrangements.

Joanne Christine Fix passed peacefully on September 13, 2018 in Grove, Oklahoma. Joanne was born September 29, 1930 in Sisseton, SD to John and Helen (Shoberg) Plut.

After receiving a teaching degree at Northern Teachers College (Northern State University) she continued her life-long love of learning and began her teaching career in Wilmont, SD. There she met S. G. (Hap) Fix. They were married in Sisseton, SD on August 26, 1951. Together they raised three daughters Nancy (Anne) Fix (Richland, WA), Captain (retired) Marilee White (Anchorage, AK), and Maureen Porter (Arlee, MT) in Pierre, SD where she taught in the public schools and worked at the South Dakota Cultural and Heritage Center.

Joanne's life was filled with her love of books and learning. She graciously shared her immense knowledge of genealogy by volunteering throughout her life with various organizations. Her service included locating and mapping family and forgotten cemeteries throughout areas of northeastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri. These works were published by Stauber Books of Grove, OK.   She was a life member of the South Dakota and Minnesota Historical Societies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hap Fix; parents, John and Helen Plut; sister, Helen (Plut) Rice; brother-in-law, George Rice; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Plut.

She is survived by her brother, John Plut, her daughters, grandchildren: Emily Porter Kupko (Nate Kupko), Major Jared Porter (Amanda Thomas), Jacob White, Meara White and an extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She enjoyed a life well lived on her terms with grace. She will be missed by the many lives she touched through teaching and volunteer work.
