Funeral Service for Joan Bernice Renville, 83, of Sisseton, SD, will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at Sisseton Wahpeton Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, South Dakota with Pastor Jerome Renville, Frank Barse, Clyde Kampeska, and Levi Keoke officiating. Drum Group will be Old Agency Singers and pianist Billy Kohl. Pall Bearers will be Derek Kirk, Kris Kohl, Russell Barse, David Barse, Erik Wilson, and Dean Abraham Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Yvonne "Slick" Wiley, Cheryl Renville, Gladys Renville, Jane Barse, Connie Abraham, Ramona Renville, Mercy Young, and Joan's many Friends and Relatives. There will be an All-Night Wake service on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribal Community Center Agency Village, South Dakota. Interment will be at the St. Mary's Episcopal Cemetery, Agency Village, South Dakota. Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Joan Bernice Renville was born on April 24, 1942, in Sisseton, South Dakota to Ernest and Helen (Nahoton) Ryan. She obtained her GED. She married Floyd Kirk Sr. and later married Jerry C. Renville. She lived her whole life around the Sisseton area. Joan was a housewife and had various jobs, working at the nursing home, HeadStart and the café. She enjoyed cooking, playing the slot machines, Bingo, and reading. Joan passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at home with her family by her side.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Chaz Renville; children Fran (Tommy) Kirk Tease, Valerie Kirk, Ron Kirk, Melody Renville, Tamara Friemel-Renville, Wade Renville, and Steve Owen; twenty grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Helen Ryan; brothers Vincent Max, Robert Max, and Rollin Ryan; sister Rose Max; and granddaughter Jeni Lee Kohl.
