Obituary

Celebration of Life Service for Jerry Dennis Harrington, 57 of New Effington, SD will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. at Sica Hollow State Park, Sisseton, SD. Jerry passed away at his home on May 18, 2014.
Jerry was born on May 10, 1957 in Browns Valley, Minnesota to James and Marion (Berg) Harrington.
He attended school in New Effington, SD. He worked in building construction. Jerry was united in marriage to Pamela Berend-Clow on December 12, 1980. Jerry and Pamela became proprietors of the White Eagle Ballroom in New Effington, SD in April 1979. A year later, they purchased the old theater and adjoining bar, calling it the "Cannonball Tavern" and operated it until the fall of 1984, when they sold the business. Jerry went to work for Doug Broz doing auto body work, and then later he opened his own shop. He went back to building construction, remodeling, and renovating. He was very artistic in redoing antiques and was a rustic artist. He did welding, jack of all trades, was strong as an ox, and a horseman. He gave famous bear hugs and was a great gardener, loved to can and was a great bread maker . He was a loving grandfather. He was a great dancer.
Jerry is survived by his two daughters, Tina Harrington and Sam Minder of Browns Valley, MN, Jenna Harrington and Travis Peterson of Breckenridge, MN; one step-son Jason Clow and Michelle Vixaisack of Peoria, AZ; nine brothers, Pat (Helen) Harrington of Arizona, Mike (Shod) Harrington of Fergus Falls, MN, Johnny Harrington of Fergus Falls, MN, Peter Harrington of New Effington, SD, Jim (Holly) Harrington of Lisbon, ND, Thomas (Annette) Harrington of Fergus Falls, MN, Will (Gale) Harrington of Fergus Falls, MN, Larry (Gabrielle) Harrington of Texas, and Timothy Harrington of Wheaton, MN; four sisters, Mary Winthers of Arizona, Linda (Jerry) Aronovitch of Arizona, Loretta Harrington of Arizona and Susie Harrington of Tennessee.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, Amy Lee Harrington; and one grandson, Ian Harrington.
