Jene Louise Dolney, 55, passed away in San Diego, CA on May 22, 2022, losing her battle with a long illness.

She was born in Sisseton, SD on February 1, 1967 to Linda (Crawford) and Eugene Dolney. She was raised in Webster, SD and graduated from Webster HS in 1985 where she was active in many sports including volleyball and track. After High School, Jene attended Northern State University studying Visual Arts. She entered the Air Force in 1986 and was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base as a security specialist until she received an honorable discharge in 1993. While active duty, Jene served in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm and was deployed to Panama on a special duty assignment for which she earned the National Defense Service Medal. Jene also earned an Air Force Good Conduct medal during her service.

Jene was married to Wayne Miller from 1988 to 1992 and they lived in New Underwood, SD while they were both stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base and served in the same squadron. Jene moved to Arizona in 1993 and worked as a nuclear security officer for ten years at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. She was a member of the Dedicated Armed Response Team, an elite security team, during her time at Palo Verde. Jene's son, Chace Alexander, was born in Arizona. She was extremely proud of him as he grew up and into the young man he has become. She continued to work in the security field and later in warehouse security and distribution in various positions in Arizona, transferring to Michigan, and then back in Arizona. After her diagnosis and extended hospitalization in 2020, Jene moved to Oceanside, CA in care of her longtime friend, Patti Castille and her son Anthony Castille (who was proud to also call Jene "mom").

Jene loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, camping, biking and adventure sports. She played on several softball teams as an adult. Even when it became physically difficult, Jene enjoyed walks on the beach and collecting rocks, shells and leaves. She was a talented artist and loved to draw. She was known for her bright smile and sense of humor by her friends and family.

Jene is survived by her son, Chace Alexander of Tolleson, AZ; two brothers, Douglas Dolney of Enemy Swim Lake, SD and Christopher (Susan) Dolney of Rapid City, SD; her sister-in-law, Virginia Dolney of Webster, SD; Niece, Jessica (Brandon) Carlson, Blayson, Kinsley and Briar; nephews, Trevor Dolney and River; Hunter (Nerissa) Dolney, Dawson Dolney, Logan Dolney and Lincoln Dolney; and her godmother, Ruth Campbell of Waubay, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Linda Dolney; maternal grandparents, Lincoln and Evelyn (Lovejoy) Crawford; and paternal grandparents, Leo and Rose (Sichmeller) Dolney.
