Obituary

Memorial Service for Jeffrey Galen Shepherd, 67 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD. There will be a Wake Service on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 7:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD. Officiating will be Fr. Conrad Ciesel, Deacon Bitsey Ciesel and the St. James Lay Readers. Drum Group will be Old Agency and Pianist Billy Kohl. Urn Bearers will be Stefan Shepherd and Sean Shepherd. Pall Bearers will be R.J. Cadotte, Francis Cadotte, Calvin Cadotte, Loren Locke, Douglas Rencountre, and Julian Block. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dillion DeCoteau, Geraldine Locke, Lois Owens, Noreen Iyarpeya, Marcella Haug, Smokey and Robin Bowen, Ray Rouillard, Vern Rouillard Sr., Sonia Rouillard, Libby Locke, Elroy "Munson" LeBeau, Darwin James, Francis Crawford, and Mark Keoke Sr. Jeffrey passed away on August 21, 2024 at Coteau des Prairie Hospital, Sisseton, SD. Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Jeffrey Galen Shepherd was born on July 9, 1957, in Sisseton, SD to Stephen Shepherd and Irene (Max) Shepherd. He attended school in Sisseton and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1976. He lived in New York City and then returned to the Sisseton area. He married Deborah Divine, and they had two sons: Stefan and Sean. He attended college at SWC and earned a degree in Business. He was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church. He worked in a printing shop and then went on to work for the SWO Tribe in the finance department, worked on grants for the E.S. District, he served on tribal council from 1995-1996, was a gaming commissioner for years, and later worked at Woodland Cabinets. He married Lois Kohl on October 1, 2022.

Jeffrey enjoyed visiting with friends and family, had a great sense of humor, he was very knowledgeable about many things especially the bible which he read twice, he liked airplanes and helicopters, he was always teasing people, and enjoyed all the Traditional foods and roast beef.  His favorite football team was the Miami Dolphins.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Shepherd; sons, Stefan Shepherd, Sean Shepherd, and Joseph Heminger; stepchildren, Stephanie Block, LaDonna Haug, Alisha Haug, Terrance St. John and sixteen step grandchildren; brothers, Owen Rondell and James Rondell; sisters, Valorie Augustson and Irene Rondell; nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Stephen and Irene Shepherd; sisters, Dormalie Shepherd, Francie Rondell, and Jessica Rondell; brothers, Steve Shepherd Jr., Rufus Shepherd, Dale Shepherd, Frederick Rondell, and John Rondell; aunt, Rose Max Seaboy; nephew, Jesse Rondell; nieces, April Rondell and Lynn Rondell; maternal grandparents, Jessie Deer and Sam Max; paternal grandparents, Cora Williams and Andrew Shepherd.
