Funeral Service for Janice Rose Ann Blue, "Ohitika Winyan", 65, of Flandreau, SD will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 12:00 PM at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, with Butch Felix officiating. Pallbearers will be Alan Olson, Jerome Renville, Josh Kohl, Frankie Robertson, Brandon Renville, Cody White, and Murray Bourelle. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lillian Wanna, Carol Iron Moccasin, Myrna Louis, Shirley Isaac, Darlene King, Marie Renville, Annette Heminger, Margaret Bourelle, Annie Felix, Carol Bursheim, Allene Ross, Zelma Flute, and Rose Keeble. The drum will be the Buffalo Lake Singers. Interment will be in the Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery, Big Coulee, SD. Wake Services will be held at the Tribal Community Center at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday, and an all-night wake on Monday. Janice was born on October 12, 1946 in Sisseton, SD to Phillip and Vera (Heminger) Louis. She grew up in Big Coulee and attended school at Flandreau Indian School where she graduated in 1963. She attended school in Chicago for cosmetology. She worked in Chicago before returning to the Big Coulee area in 1970. She was married to Melvin Lake in Big Coulee on October 2, 1971. Janice was active in the Big Coulee District where she raised her son. Janice worked at the Flandreau Indian School. Janice was married to Gerald Blue in 1986. The couple lived in Granite Falls, MN. Janice was an artist, a writer and a poet. She was a member of the Pte Cante Winyan "the Buffalo Heart Woman Society". She was a Nascar Fan and she loved the Chicago Bears and was an all-around sports fan. Janice passed away on October 4, 2012 at the Doherty Hospice house in Sioux Falls, SD.
Janice is survived by one son, Richard Lake of Flandreau, SD; two brothers, David Louis of Big Coulee District, SD and Monty Louis of Granite Falls, MN; and her beloved pets, Casey and Nolie.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, Edward, Creighton "Mickey", Clifford, and Reed "Wendy", and one sister Josephine LaPointe.
