Obituary

Funeral Service for Janet Ann Bakke, 73 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Family Life Assembly of God Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Vernon Donnell officiating. Special Music by Gloria and Irv Slaamot and June Evenson. Pallbearers will be Irv Slaamot, Chester Erickson, Randy Brooks, Gordon Fordahl, Rev. Les Galland and Harold Erickson. Honorary Pallbearers are all of Janet's Friends and Relatives. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation on Friday, January 27, 2012 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Cahill Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the Funeral at the church on Saturday.
Janet was born on March 15, 1938 in Sisseton, SD to Martin and Maymie (Erickson) Hovland. Janet grew up and attended school at Roslyn graduating from Roslyn High School. Following graduation she moved to Minneapolis, MN where she worked for the Bureau of Engraving. She met Lloyd in Minneapolis and they were united in marriage on April 19, 1959 at Roslyn Lutheran Church. They farmed on the family farm until 1983, when the couple moved to Aberdeen where they managed two motels. They returned to Sisseton and she worked for Lowell Lundstrom Ministries, the Viking Motel, and Sisseton School. She was a longtime member of the Assembly of God Church. For many years Lloyd and Janet played music at the Tekakwitha Living Center and other events. She liked to listen to music, play piano, accordion, and embroider. Janet passed away peacefully on January 25, 2012 at the Tekakwitha Living Center.
Janet is survived by one son, Donald and Darlene Bakke of Arlington, VA; one daughter-in-law Sheryl Strandberg of Watertown, SD; one brother, Kenneth and Joyce Hovland of San Diego, CA; four granddaughters, and two great grandchildren.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Mark and Glen; and one brother, Eugene.
