Funeral Service for James Dennis Neilan, 51, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at the Ascension Presbyterian Church, Big Coulee, SD with Gerald Heminger Jr. CRE officiating. Pianist will be Billy Kohl. Pallbearers will be Danny Neilan, Ronald Neilan, Ronald (Jr.) Neilan, Dennis Owen, Samples Wayne German, Riley James Neilan and Corey Neilan. Honorary Pallbearers Gilbert Kohl, Robert Kohl, Josh Kohl, Harvey Quinn, Dave Wallenstein, Darren Amos, Ted Freiner, Allen Neilan, Richard Williams. Darrell Amos, Craig "Crash" Osterloh, Magoo Steven Owen, Wambdisapa Seaboy. Interment will be in the Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery, Big Coulee, SD. There will be an all night Wake Service on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 7:00 P.M. at the Big Coulee District Center. The Cahill funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.
James Dennis Neilan was born on May 21, 1971 at Sisseton, SD to George and Mabel (Amos) Neilan. He grew up in the Big Coulee area and graduated from Wilmot High School in 1990. He went to work for Dakota Western as a forklift operator and maintenance for many years. He then worked for IHS from 2007 to 2017 when he retired. He was united in marriage to Kyleen Freiner on August 23, 2008 at Ascension Presbyterian Church. His hobbies were farming, cattle and buffalos. He enjoyed hunting. He was always willing to help anyone who needed help. James passed away at his home on Sunday, January 1, 2023.
James is survived by his wife, Kyleen Neilan of Sisseton, SD; one daughter, Kaci Neilan of Veblen, SD; three step daughters, Cristina Klimowski of Chicago, Shannan Callahan of Texas, and Victoria Zook of Clarksville, TN; two brothers, Dan (Theresa) Neilan of Watertown, SD and Ronald Neilan of Peever, SD; one half sister, Mary Neilan of Minnesota; one aunt, Geraldine Cole of Old Agency Village, SD; one uncle Harlan Amos of Sioux Falls, SD; father-in-law Pastor Glen Renville of Sisseton, SD; a sister-in-law Betty Neilan and many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mabel Neilan; a brother, Garry Neilan; his paternal grandparents, George and Edith (Slayback) Neilan and maternal grandparents, Flora and Norby Amos.
