Funeral Mass for James Brian Karst, 52 of Waubay, SD will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Fr. Jerry Ranek celebrant. Organist will be Cindy Marohl and song leader will be Sandi Jaspers. Pallbearers will be Joe Karst, Josh Karst, Jacob Karst, Greg Karst, Doug Karst and Kevin Jens. Honorary Pallbearers will be "All of James' Family & Friends." Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation at the Cahill Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

James Brian Karst was born to Joseph and Lois (Herniman) Karst on May 25, 1965 in Sisseton, SD. He grew up in rural Peever area. He attended school at Sisseton until the eighth grade. He told his father that he would rather stay home and work on the family farm. He then worked for the railroad. He was united in marriage to Ramona Neilan and they had five children. The couple resided in Waubay and James lived in Waubay the remainder of his life. He was employed by Gregerson Salvage, and for Kriech construction on and off through the years. Finally working for Johnson Garbage and eventually he bought the business in 2010 which became Karst Sanitation for the past seven years. James passed away at his home in Waubay on October 29, 2017.

James is survived by his four children, Julia Rae Karst, Joanna Lee Karst, and twins Jennifer Lou Karst and Joe James Karst all of Waubay, SD; one granddaughter, Jalila Karst of Waubay, SD; his mother, Lois Karst of Sisseton, SD; four brothers, Frank (Cheryl) Karst of Sisseton, SD, Douglas Karst of Sisseton, SD, Gary Karst of Waseca, MN, and Greg Karst of Sisseton, SD; numerous nieces, nephews. cousins, aunts and uncles.

James was preceded in death by his father Joseph Karst, his daughter Jamie Ann, two brothers David and Kevin Karst, and one nephew
