After his education he worked for the Milwaukee railroad on the bolt crew. In 1954 he entered the US Navy, serving until 1958, after his honorable discharge he went back to the Milwaukee Railroad as a welder. On October 10, 1959 he married Carol (Greiner) in Wilmot, SD. He continued to work for the railroad while living in Perry, Iowa. In 1962 the couple returned to the Wilmot area and started farming and milking cows until his retirement in 1992. After their retirement the couple traveled, enjoying that time visiting family and friends.

He was forever lending a helping hand to his family, friends and neighbors. He always had time for us all.   You could always find him outdoors at the lake playing with grandkids, working in the garden, at an auction sale, playing cards or telling stories.
