Visitation for James A. Dady, 90, of Sisseton, SD will be held at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD on Friday, October 10th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. with "sharing time" at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 11th at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sisseton, SD followed by interment at St. Peter's Cemetery in Sisseton. Pallbearers will be grandsons J.Adam and J.Mark Dady, Kevin, Daniel and Michael Fitzgerald, Conor and Riley Quinn and good friend Gordie Groos.

Mr. Dady died Sunday, October 5th at Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton, South Dakota.

James Arthur Dady was born December 30, 1923, to John Max and Helen Wolff Dady in their home at 404 E. Pine Street in Sisseton, SD. A lifetime resident of Sisseton, James attended Sisseton schools where he was an outstanding athlete, receiving accolades in basketball, track and tennis. After graduating from Sisseton High School in 1941, James attended Wahpeton School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, Dunwoody Electric Institute in Minneapolis and Minneapolis Business School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served from May 1943 to May 1946 , when he was discharged as a Yeoman 1st Class. He saw duty in Samoa, New Caledonia and Espiritu Santos in the New Hebrides Islands. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, James returned to Sisseton and established J.A. Dady Distributing which he led from 1947 until its sale in 2002.
James married Fonty Duffield on June 16, 1948 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley, MN. They made their home in Sisseton, SD and also spent 21 winters at Victoria Palms in Donna, TX. James spent the winters of 2007-2012 in Georgetown, TX. James and Fonty were blessed with four children. Fonty passed away on April 13, 2007.

James was a life-time member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sisseton, SD, where he was proud to work with the Catholic community to get the current church and the adjacent Catholic school built. James was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, held state-wide positions in the K of C and was honored in 2011 as one of the longest serving 4th degree Knight of the Watertown Chapter. He was an active member and past commander of the Otto-Quande-Renville post of the American Legion, and also held state office in the Legion. He was a long-time member and chief of the Sisseton Fire Department, a founding member of the board of Coteau des Prairies Hospital, an active member of the Sisseton Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis, a founding member of the Sisseton Alumni Association and member of numerous committees dedicated to the betterment of Sisseton. He was recognized as an Alumnus of the Year of Sisseton High School and as the South Dakota Volunteer of the Year.

James enjoyed sports – as a player, an official, a coach, a spectator and a proud father and grandfather. In his later years, he enjoyed playing bridge, shooting pool and visiting with friends and strangers. A devoted family man, his family was his greatest treasure.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother John (Jack) Dady and his son-in-law Stephen Quinn.

He is survived by two sisters, Maxine Torvik of Pierre, SD and Denise Keller of Brooklyn Park, MN, two sisters-in-law, Sharon Dady of Mobridge, SD and Patti (Marty) Kyro of Harris MN, a brother-in-law, Alan Duffield of Browns Valley, MN, his children, J. Michael Dady and wife Kim of St. Paul, MN, Katy Quinn of Georgetown, TX, Patrick Dady and wife Ember of Sisseton, SD, and Angel Fitzgerald and husband John of Centerville, MN, 14 grandchildren: J. Adam, Erin, and J. Mark Dady, Ann Dayton, Kevin, Kelly, Daniel and Michael Fitzgerald, Heather Molloy, Conor and Riley Quinn, Suzanne Sanborn, Meghan Williams and Shannon Witcher and 17 great-grandchildren: Violet, Jackson, Max and Elsa Dady, Teddy and Kelly Dayton, Eva Fitzgerald, Campbell and Will Molloy, Cooper, Henry, Owen, Troy and Catherine Quinn, Grace and Liam Sanborn, and Quinn Williams.

In lieu of flowers, the family will forward memorials to The American Legion, Coteau des Prairies Hospital, St. Peter's Church and The Sisseton Fire Department in Sisseton.
