Obituary

Private family Graveside Funeral Service for Jacob LeRoy Blacksmith, 78, of Peever, SD will be held on Wednesday June 3, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at St. John's Episcopal Cemetery, Browns Valley SD with Pastor Milton Owen and Rev. Fr. Charles Chan officiating. Pall bearers will be Lonnie Runnels, Cody Toutges, Larry Finley Jr., Harley Spider, Damion Flute and Daris Runnels. Honorary pallbearers will be Maurice Spider, Lola & LaVonne Spider, Lily Runnels, Daniel & Sharon Greeley, Mary, Gina, & Reginold Horn, Faith Finley, Mandel Yankton, and Ervin & Ronald DuMarce. Interment will be in the St. John's Episcopal cemetery, Browns Valley, SD. Visitation will be held at the Cahill Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, June 3, 2020. from 11:00 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. The covid-19 guidelines will be strictly followed . The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Jacob Blacksmith age 78 of Peever, SD passed away on Thursday May 28, 2020 surrounded by his family and loved ones. Jacob was born to Marion Blacksmith-Johnson and Olie Shepherd in August 2, 1941 in Sisseton, SD. He grew up in Peever, SD and attended several boarding schools in Wahpeton, ND, Pierre, SD, and Flandreau, SD. As a young man he did a lot of traveling and after all that traveling he went back to school and received his GED and went into plumbing and carpentry. He enjoyed life. He enjoyed working at Dakota Sioux Casino and he made a lot of friends working there, especially Russell Owen. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Konji and to this union a son Jacob Jr. was born.

He is survived by 3 brothers; Larry Finley of Watertown, SD; Gideon Shepherd of Sisseton, SD; and Solomon Shepherd of Peever, SD; and one sister Sophronia Crawford of Peever, SD, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents- 1 Son, Jacob Blacksmith Jr, 4 brothers; Lorenzo Blacksmith, Douglas Blacksmith, Raymond Finley Jr., and Magnus Shepherd, and two sisters Dorothy Finley, and Della Mae Bernard.
