Funeral Service for Irene Rolstad, 99, of Sisseton, SD will be held Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. William Schruba officiating. Organist will be Marcia Peterson and soloist will be Sharon Rolstad. Pallbearers will be Roger McGurk, Craig Rolstad, Arlin Thompson, Del Scott Martenson, Mike Rolstad, Mark Cleveland, and Theron Rolstad. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Irene's Relatives and Friends. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation on Friday, April 17, 2009 from 1:00 to 7:00P.M., with a 7:00 P.M .Prayer Service at the Cahill Funeral Chapel. There will be visitation on Saturday, one hour prior to services at the church. Irene was born on July 10, 1909 in Dawson, Minnesota to Nels and Rose (Nelson) Lindell. She attended grade school at Old Effington, SD. Following her education Irene worked at Gunderson Hatchery, where she met her future husband Charles. Irene and Charles were married on April 6, 1929 in Sisseton, SD. They made their home in Goodwill Township, Grant Township, Sisseton Township then in 1942 they purchased a farm in Enterprise Township where they farmed until retiring in the late 1970's. Charles passed away in January 1986. Irene was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Grace Lutheran Ladies Aid, and a Church quilter. She enjoyed baking and cooking, sewing, crafts, big gardens and until a couple of years ago she crocheted without using a pattern. Irene moved to the Greenleaf Assisted Living Center, Sisseton, SD on June 12, 2001 where she made her home. She passed away on April 11, 2009 at the Coteau Des Prairies Hospital, Sisseton, SD, 90 days short of being a 100 years old.
Irene is survived by three sons, Bernard and his wife, Betty Rolstad of Sisseton, SD, Harvey and his wife, Sylvia Rolstad of Minneapolis, MN, and Milton and his wife, Judy Rolstad of Sisseton, SD; four daughters, Ardys McGurk of Las Vegas, NV, Verneice Thompson of Fargo, ND, Clarice Martenson of Sun City, AZ and Lorraine and husband, Charles Cleveland of Huron, SD; eighteen grandchildren, thirty eight great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles, three brothers, Lawrence, Leroy and Lloyd; one sister Verna Sampson; two son-in-laws, Harry Thompson Jr. and Leo McGurk, one grandson Dale McGurk, and one great-granddaughter Kayla Cleveland.
