Funeral Service for Inez "Inie" Owen, Caŋteṭiŋs Waokiye Wiŋ, 79 of Sisseton, SD will be held Friday, March 29,2024 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, South Dakota. Lunch will be served at Noon prior to service. Officiating will be Pastor Milton Owen, CRE Gerald Heminger Jr., and the Episcopal Lay Readers. Drum Group will be the Bernard Boys and Pianist will be God Son Billy Kohl. Pallbearers will be Destry Owen, Nash Heminger Sr., Buddy MacConnell, Bryce MacConnell, Seth Owen, Pierce Owen, Jacob Owen, Daniel Owen, Nash Heminger Jr., Bentley Adolph, Jasper Heminger, Myles MacConnell, Emitt Schmidt, Elijah Schmidt, and Keegan Owen. Honorary Pallbearers will be All of Inez's family, friends, co-workers, anyone who joked with her, and the staff and residents of Tekawitha Nursing Home. Interment will be on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. Gathering at Cahill Funeral Chapel at 10:0 A.M. to process out to St. Mary's Episcopal Cemetery. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Inez Owen was born on June 24, 1944, at Sisseton, South Dakota to Marquette Keoke and Delvina Bernard. She attended school in Peever and graduated in 1963; she went on to vo-tech school in San Francisco. Inez married Garry Owen on November 13, 1969. She worked at Wholeson from 1968 to 1969 then at a Bakery in Fargo, North Dakota from 1970 to 1971 then worked at the Department of Ag in Fargo. They moved back home in 1972 where she worked at the Parent and Child Involvement Program. After that she had her own business painting houses; then finished her working career as a porter and maintenance supervisor at the Dakota Connection.
Inez enjoyed playing bingo, slots, bowling, and softball. She was a member of the St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Inez went to the Tekawitha Nursing Home on September 19th Mel's birthday and left on March 22nd Joe's birthday. She passed away March 22, 2024, at Tekawitha Nursing Home surrounded by her family.
Inez is survived by her husband Garry Owen Sr.; children Rodney Owen, Carole Owen, Melanie (Cody) MacConnell, Laura (Francis Jr.) Heminger, Joseph Owen, Garry Owen Jr., and Destry Owen; twenty-four grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; brothers Bill Keoke, Jesse Larsen, Mark Keoke; sisters Iris Keoke and Tekawitha Seaboy.
Inez was preceded in death by her parents Marquette Keoke and Delvina Bernard; great grandson Bryce MacConnell Jr.; maternal grandparents Aaron and Lavina Bernard; paternal grandparents Jacob and Etta Keoke.
