Funeral Mass for Howard Lawrence Wanna, 60 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Fr. Tony Dummer O.M.I. celebrant. Pallbearers will Antonio Richardson, Jiles Wanna, William LaCroix, Tony Barker, Ken Bear Chief, Brian Barker, Stacy Wanna, and Mickey Mudgett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Marsha Renville, Tyrell Thompson, Yvonne Williams, Alma Renville, Rev. Vernell Donnell, Mona Williams, Charlene Wanna, Marie Renville, Bonita Prescott, Michelle Ciceron and all of the Thompson Women. Interment will be in the St. Matthew's Catholic Cemetery, Veblen, SD. There will be a wake Service on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Catherine's Hall, Sisseton, SD.
Howard was born on August 9, 1951 in St. Paul, MN to Leo G. and Mary (Zapata) Wanna. He spent many years as a child at Tekakwitha. He attended High School in St. Paul and also he attended Sisseton Wahpeton Community College. He had many careers; he owned a restaurant, worked at the University of Minnesota and did contract work. Howard was a member of the Veblen-Heipa District where he served as Sgt. of Arms and was a T.E.R.O. Board Member. He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church. Howard (Acey) Lawrence Wanna entered the Spirit world on October 7, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 60 at the home of Marsha Renville.
Howard is survived by his children, Leon, Howard Jr., Christina, Thomas John, Melissa, Lucas, Michelle, Chris, Jessica, Phillip, Carmalita, and Hope; thirty grandchildren; five sisters, Roseann (Sandy) Torres and Angel of Alexandria, MN, Mary Jane Wanna Drum of Alexandria, MN, Agnes (Ed) Miller of St. Paul, MN, Patricia and Victor Wanna of St. Paul, MN, and Anita Wanna of St. Paul, MN; two brothers, Joseph Wanna of Alexandria, MN and Anthony (Cathy) Wanna of St. Paul, MN.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, and Buster (Xavier) and Elizabeth and Mona.
