Funeral Mass for Howard Arbach, 87 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Fr. Jerry Ranek Celebrant. Organist will be Colette Hull and song leader will be Sherman Hannasch. Pallbearers will be Devin Engelmann, Jorden Arbach, Brad Arbach, Michael Tchida, Chad Tchida, Dan Arbach. Honorary Pall bearers will be all of Howard's Family and Many Friends. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M, followed by visitation at St. Peter's Catholic Church at 6:00 P.M. with a Scripture Service at 7:30 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Howard was born on July 25, 1927 in Hoven, SD to Peter and Mary (Jax) Arbach. At the age of eleven, Howard moved with his family to Sisseton, SD. He grew up on a farm three miles NW of Sisseton and attended Sisseton School through the 10th grade. He worked for Walford Torvik Implement in Sisseton, John Morrell Packing Plant in Huron and drove snow plow for Roberts County. In 1949 he married Ardelle Wooley. They were blessed with seven children: JoAnne, Sharon, Donald, David, Lori and Kevin. They farmed, operated a dairy and a feedlot, raised chickens and laying hens until they retired from farming, and moved to Sisseton in 1979. He worked as a custodian at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Howard and Ardelle owned and operated the Arcade until 1989. Howard worked at the grocery store in Sisseton and started a lawn mowing service for cabins at Red Iron Lake, which he ran for seventeen years. Howard enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, bowling and watching the Minnesota Twins. He was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD, Church Council, Knights of Columbus, Grand Knight,District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus and was also a past member of the Sisseton Volunteer Fire Department. The most important part of Howard's life was his family. Howard passed away on May 16, 2015 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND after a long battle with cancer. He was loved and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Howard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ardelle Arbach of Sisseton, SD, daughters JoAnne Hagen of Badger, IA, Sharon Tchida of Sisseton, SD, and Lori (Doug) Tolle of Fargo, ND; sons Donald (Trish) Arbach of Sisseton, SD; David Arbach of Columbia Falls, MT; and Kevin (Nicole) Arbach of Morris, MN; one brother, Reynold (Clarice) Arbach of Sisseton, SD; twenty three grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren,.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Lois; two sisters, Ramona Simon and Lavera Seurer; three brothers, Ray, Richard, and Robert; and two grandsons Christopher Tchida and Nathan Tchida.
