Hilma J. Thompson, 88, of Sisseton, South Dakota, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Friday June 18, 2021.

Funeral Service for Hilma J. Thompson, 88 of Sisseton, SD will be Friday, June 25, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD. Pastor Abigail Ozanne will be officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service. Pallbearers will be Kyle Thompson, Kody Thompson, Mark Peterson, Tom Jacobson, Terry Rolstad, and Derek Peterson. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Visitation will be held at the Cahill Funeral Chapel in Sisseton on Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 5:00 till 7:00 P.M.

The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Hilma Joyce (Rolstad) Thompson, 88, of Sisseton, S.D., passed away with family by her side on June 18, 2021.

Hilma was born June 13, 1933, in Sisseton to Albert and Anna (Thurston) Rolstad. She was baptized and confirmed at Goodwill Lutheran Church of Sisseton. Hilma attended country school near her farm and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1951. She then attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, S.D., and taught in Roberts County.

Hilma married Dean Thompson on June 5, 1954, in Sisseton. They were blessed with six children – David, Iris, Calvin, Rodney, Joan and Gene.

Hilma was an active farm wife, taking care of all her children first then helping take care of grandchildren. She loved to play cards (and win!) and passed along a love for games to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She gardened for many years and enjoyed farm life. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Sisseton.

She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Dean Thompson; six children: David Thompson of Sisseton, S.D.; Iris (James) Rydell of Vermillion, S.D.; Calvin (Candace) Thompson of Sisseton, S.D.; Rodney (Shellie) Thompson of Watertown, S.D.; Joan (Daniel) Morrow of Albuquerque, N.M.; and Gene Thompson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters, Florence (Hilman) Jacobson of Park Rapids, Minn., and Betty Peterson of Sisseton, S.D., as well as 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Hilma was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Anna Rolstad; her brothers, Art Rolstad and Merle Rolstad; and her sister, Agnes Jacobson.
