Memorial Services for Harris William Schwagerl, 86, of Presho, SD, formerly of Browns Valley, MN, will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Presho Lutheran Church, Presho, SD and on Saturday, August 29, 2009 there will be a private family service at 10:30 A.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel in Sisseton, SD. The cremains will be interred with military rites at the Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Summit, SD. Harris William Schwagerl was born on June 19, 1923 at Browns Valley, MN to Frank and Josephine (Glensinger) Schwagerl. He grew up and attended school at Browns Valley, MN. After his education Harris served in the U.S. Army from March 4, 1943 until March 9, 1946
He was awarded the European-African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with four bronze Campaign stars, American theatre Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon and the Good conduct ribbon. After his discharge Harris was married and he worked for the Burlington-Northern Railroad as a Forman for forty years. Harris's first wife Esther passed away in 1990 and Harris was then married to Bethel Judish-Finnesand on September 5, 1992 at Sisseton, SD. Harris enjoyed fishing, hunting, and building, and was a big fan of the Minnesota Twins, he liked football, visiting with friends, and loved his grandchildren.
Harris is survived by his wife Bethel of Presho, SD, two stepdaughters, Kristy and Glen Cavenah and son Justin of Rapid City, SD, and Julie and Matt Smith and daughter Brianna of Vivian, SD.
Harris was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Velma Bierschbach and Clarice Lattig and one brother, Adrian.
