Funeral Service for Harlen E. Amos Sr., 84, of Milbank, South Dakota will be held on August 5, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at the Big Coulee District Center, Big Coulee with CRE Gerald Heminger Jr .Officiating. Pianist will be Betty Neilan and Honoring singers will be Donny Backman and Alvina Hayes. Pallbearers will be Darrell Amos Sr., Ronnie Neilan Sr., Ronnie Neilan Jr., Soloman (Harvey) Quinn, Robert Kohl, and Kevin Amos. Honorary Pallbearers will be al of Harlen's Relatives. Interment will be in the Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery, Big Coulee, SD. Wake Services will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 7:00 P.M. and an All-Night Wake Service on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 7:00 P.M. at the Big Coulee District Center.  The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, South Dakota is in charge of arrangements.

Harlen was born July 18, 1942, in rural Peever, SD and was raised in Big Coulee, to Norby and Flora (Phillps) Amos. He grew up attending the Big Coulee Ascension church where he attended with his children as they were growing up. He learned a lot about hunting, gardening and just helping around the homestead that he passed on to his children. He married his wife, Betty (Atkison) Amos when he was 18 years old, and was married to her till passing. He was a great father to seven children teaching them different traits that he learned. He worked doing road construction as well as construction of homes and buildings that are still standing around the Sisseton area.

He was a father that was there for all his children when they needed him. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and road trips. He had always been a nature-loving person and just being around people. He would talk to anyone and have conversations with a lot of people. He had a spark about him that people were drawn to him and somehow, they would have a conversation that always ended in laughter. He enjoyed watching western movies and listening to fifty's/60's Rock-N-Roll music, Gospel music, and older country music. He was always a family man. He always enjoyed having family around. He always had been a very simple man who thought of other people and just showed the most love to anyone. Harlen passed away on July 30, 2026, at his daughter, LeeAnn (Amos) Wright home in Watertown, South Dakota.

Harlen is survived by 5 children, Darrin Amos of Sioux Falls, SD, Travis Amos of Granite Falls, MN, Stacey (Joe) Amos of Sioux Falls, SD, Jason Amos of Sioux Falls, SD, and LeeAnn (Marcus) Wright of Watertown, SD; one sister Geraldine Cole of Agency Village, SD; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Harlen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty; two sons Harlen Amos Jr. and David Amos; granddaughter Chasity Owen-Amos; brothers Charles Amos Sr., Melvin Amos, Gaylord Amos; and sisters Sabina Fancher, LaVelva Williams and Mabel Neilan.
