Obituary

The funeral service for Gregory D. Hanson, 56, of Veblen, SD will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Veblen, SD with Rev. Harold Watrous officiating. Organist, Karen Hornseth will accompany vocalist, Thea Loy Pallansch. Pallbearers will be Preston Baus, Peter Greseth, Clayton Halverson, Ken MacConnell, Andrew Meng, Jeremy Rear, Jake Williams, and TJ Just. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Greg's friends and neighbors. Interment will be in the Palestine Cemetery, rural Veblen, SD. There will be visitation on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 1:00 to 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. There will be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Thursday.
Greg was born on March 14, 1955 in Veblen, SD to Kermit and Gayle (Shulson) Hanson. He attended school in Veblen and graduated from Veblen High School in 1973. Following high school, he attended college at Northern State University and Black Hills State University. He then returned to Veblen and engaged in livestock and grain farming. His hobbies ranged from pheasant and waterfowl hunting to enjoying a good conversation with old or new friends. He especially enjoyed going for drives with his canine companion, Sheba. For the past several years, Greg had been involved in organic farming with enthusiasm and great pride. Greg passed away unexpectedly on November 26, 2011 at the Coteau des Prairies Hospital, Sisseton, SD the result of a heart attack.
Greg is survived by his mother, Gayle Hanson of Veblen, SD; special friend, Kathy DuMarce of Veblen, SD; two sisters, Kay (Darcy) Rear of Lead, SD and Jan (Terry) Just of Sisseton, SD; two nieces, Krista Rear of Spearfish, SD and Gabrielle (Jake) Williams of Belle Plaine, MN; one nephew, Jeremy Rear of Lead, SD; and one great-niece Jadynn Williams of Belle Plaine, MN. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Kermit and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
