Funeral Service for Gordon L. Peterson, 97, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton, SD. There will be a visitation from 5-7:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the Cahill Funeral Chapel in Sisseton, SD with a Prayer Service starting at 7:00 P.M. Officiating the services will be Pastor Joshua Knudsen. Organist will be Ollie Yost. Soloist will be Scott Anderson. Pianist will be Nicholas Peterson. Pall Bearers will be Dustin Currence, Ember Englund, Ross Currence, Kendra Peterson, Trevor Peterson, Matthew Peterson, Travis Peterson, Aaron Peterson, and Nicholas Peterson. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Kasen Currence, Jaxtin Currence, Kenley Currence, Adelynn Currence, Leah Currence, Avery Peterson, Raegan Peterson, and Kenny Olson. Military Rites by Otto Quande Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. Interment will be at the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD, is in charge of arrangements.

Gordon L. Peterson was born on March 24, 1928, to Joseph and Anna (Dahl) Peterson on the family farm in Enterprise Township, Roberts County, SD.   He was the oldest son of 11 siblings.  Gordon was baptized and confirmed at Stavanger Lutheran Church close to the family farm. On December 31, 1950, he was united in marriage to Shirley A. Iverson at Hope Lutheran Church. Gordon served in the Korean War and returned home in 1952. They made their home together in Long Hollow Township, northwest of Sisseton for over fifty-five years. In 2008, they purchased a home and moved to town. Gordon was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD.  He had an active role in GLC Church Council; he also served as an usher for many years. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion, receiving his 65-year certificate and served on the board of Long Hollow Township. Gordon loved his family and always kept in touch with them.  He loved to visit with them and give advice when needed. Gordon loved the farm and raising cattle. He purchased six purebred black Angus cows and a black Angus bull, that was the beginning of his registered herd.  He joined the American Angus Association in 1968, and his registered black Angus herd began. Gordon continued to be a part of what he started over 70 years ago, even after he moved to town. The farming and registered black Angus cattle are still going today, making what Gordon and Shirley started 75 years ago a 3rd generation farm.  Gordon passed away on August 2, 2025 at Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, South Dakota.

Nine grandchildren; Dustin (Michelle) Currence, Fargo, ND; Ember (Larry) Englund, Rosholt, SD; Ross (Brittney) Currence, Aberdeen, SD; Kendra Peterson, Sisseton, SD; Trevor (Cassie) Peterson, Sisseton, SD; Matthew Peterson, Watertown, SD; Travis (Kallyn) Peterson, Sisseton, SD; Aaron (Megan) Peterson, Akron, IA; Nicholas Peterson, Rogers, AR. Seven great-grandchildren; Kasen, Kenley Currence, Fargo, ND; Jaxtin Currence, Rosholt, SD; Adelynn, Leah Currence, Aberdeen, SD; Raegan Ann Peterson and Avery Peterson, Sisseton, SD.  One Brother Allen (Carol) Peterson, Sisseton, SD, four sisters-in-law Ardys (Philip Peterson) Bybee, Marcia (Sherman) Peterson, Betty (Robert) Iverson, Sisseton, SD, Mary Ann (Royce) Iverson, Claire City, SD and numerous other family and friends.

Gordon was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, infant daughter Gale Elaine, parents Joseph B and Anna Peterson, brothers Phillip and Sherman; sisters Alvina, Joyce, Minerva, Mervis, Ruby, and infant sisters Ruby and Shirley.
