Obituary

Funeral Service for Gladys Irene White, 82 formerly of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with the Rev. Clifford Canku and Rev. Gerald Jr. Heminger. Pianist will be Kay Bursheim. Pallbearers will be Ron Redday, John Redday Jr., Bobby Beetem, Wayne Lufkins, Mitchell Maskewit, Sklyer White, Vernon Renville Sr. and Derrick Redday. Honorary Pallbearers will be Irene Kampeska, Geraldine Locke, Candy Anderson, Ruth Hill, Joyce Country, Marcella Haug, Ione Eagle, Ione Lufkins, Julia Lufkins, Terry McKay, Grady Renville, Brian LaBelle, Bernadette Moccasin, and "All of Gladys' Family and Bingo Friends". Military Rites by the Kit Fox Society. Interment will be at the Sisseton Veterans Section Sisseton, South Dakota. There will be a Wake Service on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 7:00 PM at the Tribal Community Center. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Gladys was born on August 15, 1931 in Long Hollow Township to Joseph ad Ellen (Harris) Lufkins. She attended school at Long Hollow and Wahpeton Indian School, she graduated from Flandreau Indian School. She was in the Air force from 1952 to 1955 and received the National Defense Service Medal. She then attended Presentation College in Aberdeen and received her degree as an X-Ray Lab Technician. She worked at IHS in Sisseton, Eagle Butte, Rapid City and Sioux San. Gladys retired in 2005 and moved to Sioux Falls, SD. Gladys enjoyed bingo, cooking, collecting owls and Indian artifacts, playing guitar and sketching. Gladys passed away on May 28, 2014 at the VA hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Gladys is survived by her children Marvin Maskewit of Long Hollow, SD, Vanessa Beauleiu of Minneapolis, MN, W. Turk White of Sioux Falls, SD, Memoree White of Sioux Falls, SD; grandson she raised Skylar White; sister Gloria Nelson of Appleton, MN; brothers Joe Lufkins of Sioux Falls, SD and John Redday Sr. of Sisseton, SD; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers Curtis, Kenneth, Melvin and an infant; two sisters Coretta Walker and Grace Redday and one granddaughter.
