Funeral Service for Gladys Knutson, 94, of Veblen, SD will be held at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Veblen, SD with the Rev. Tryphine Olson Schruba officiating. Organist will be Coleen Halverson with soloist Jerry Nelson. Pallbearers will be Ryan Knutson, Shane Knutson, Jon Knutson, Kelly Knutson, Raymond Oland and Harlan Hilleson. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Thursday. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of the arrangements.
Gladys (Myhren) Knutson age 94 passed away quietly February 15, 2014 at Watertown SD. Gladys was born February 14,1920 to Helge and Caroline (Knutson) Myhren at Veblen SD. She attended elementary school at Hillhead SD and graduated from Veblen High School in 1938. After graduation Gladys married Irwin Knutson June 4, 1939. From this union three children were born.
The couple were engaged in farming at what is the present day location of Prairie Sky Guest Ranch. After the children were grown Gladys became the manager of Tract a quilting factory in Veblen, which later became Dakotah Incorporated. Gladys became completely devoted to Dakotah and served on the Board of directors for many years. Gladys traveled from coast to coast promoting the product and company. She managed the plant in Veblen until retiring.
Gladys's other interests were gardening, cake decorating and of course sewing. She shared her talent as a 4-H leader and Sunday School teacher. Gladys was active in the Senior Citizens, Auxiliary and Circle at Our Saviors in Veblen. Gladys and Irwin made many trips to Montana and the west coast, the highlight being a trip to Norway and one to Hawaii.
Gladys was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Irwin, sisters Esther Jones, Ruth Hammond, Hanna England, and one brother Knute. One son James and daughter Joanne. One grandson Wade Knutson.
Gladys is survived by one brother Raymond (Jean) Myhren of Sunnyvale CA. and a son Kent (Ileen) Knutson of Watertown SD. Six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
