Funeral Service for Mrs. Ernest (Gladys) Mae Hansen, 77, of Veblen, SD will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Tony Dummer O.M.I. officiating. Organist will be Loretta Bessler with music by Rebecca and Marsha Berreth. Pallbearers will be Jacob, Rebecca, James, and Andrew Berreth, Lester Hansen and David Hansen. Interment will be in the Veblen Cemetery, Veblen, South Dakota. There will be visitation on Friday, November 26, 2010 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with family present, and one hour prior to the funeral at the Funeral Home. Gladys was born on December 16, 1932 in Veblen, SD to Peter and Clara (Hoffman) Wodarz. She grew up and attended school in Veblen, and graduated from Veblen High School in 1950. She helped her parents on the farm and worked at the Veblen Hospital. She was united in marriage to Jacob Berreth on April 26, 1953. The couple operated the Standard Oil Station in Veblen for several years, before moving to Newcastle, WY where they operated a truck stop. They returned to Veblen in 1962 and operated the Standard Oil Station in Veblen again until Jacob passed away in 1979. Gladys was united in marriage to Ernest Hansen on August 5, 1985. Gladys' hobbies included painting, politics, being with her family and baking. She was well known for her apple pies. Gladys passed away on November 24, 2010 her home in Veblen, SD.
Gladys is survived by her husband, Ernest of Veblen, SD; two sons, Albert and his wife, Marsha Berreth of Pierre, SD and Russell and his wife, Kate Berreth of Marshall, MN; one brother, Sylvester and wife, Betty Wodarz of Wichita, KS; two sisters, Mrs. Rosella Bremmon of Britton, SD and Emma and husband, Sam Cheek of Crescent, FL; five grandchildren, Rebecca Berreth of Rapid City, SD, Jacob (Jacinth) Berreth of Laramie, WY, James (Kate) Berreth of Vermillion, SD, Andrew Berreth of Ft. Bragg, NC, and Braeden Berreth of Marshall, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jacob; one sister, Agnes Freeman and one brother, Frank Wodarz.
