Memorial Service for Gilbert Robertson, 82 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Veterans Cemetery, Sisseton, SD with Mickey Peters and Mike Peters officiating and special music by Butch Felix. Urn bearer will be Dana Robertson. Inurnment will be in the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Veterans Cemetery, Sisseton, SD with Military Rites by the Desert Storm Era and Kit Fox Society. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Gilbert Louis Robertson was born on October 8, 1935 in Veblen, SD to Melvin N. Robertson and Mamie (Wanna) Robertson. He grew up and attended school in Pierre, SD, Wahpeton, ND and Veblen, SD. After high school he enlisted into the United States Army on October 26, 1954. He was with the 82 ^nd Airborne and served during the Korean War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Parachutist Badge. While in the Army he obtained his GED. After being honorably discharged on December 5, 1955 and transferred to the Reserves. Gilbert moved to California and became a jeweler. Gilbert married Gyla Eastman in 1954. They moved back up to the Midwest and Gilbert attended college at Morris in 1977 and got a degree in Political Science. They moved back to the Sisseton area in 1980. Gilbert was on the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Council and many other board; he was on the Pierre Indian School Board for many years. Gyla passed away in 1995. In 1996 his and Joyce's friendship grew and have been together ever since. Gilbert loved to read anything and everything. He passed away at home surrounded by his family on March 6, 2018 in Sisseton, SD.

Gilbert is survived by his significant other, Joyce Country of Sisseton, SD; children Debra (Robertson) Sing of Sisseton, SD, Dana L. and Jennifer Robertson of Parkers Prairie, MN and Deanna L. Robertson of Alexander, MN; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Melvin and Gloria Robertson of Sisseton, SD, Frankie and Kathy Robertson of Sisseton, SD, Wally and Karin Robertson of Olympia, WA, Michael Lafontaine of Sisseton, SD and Kevin Lafontaine of Sisseton, SD; sisters, Brenda Jones of Sisseton, SD, Terri Lafontaine of Sisseton, SD, Charlene Lafontaine of Sisseton, SD, Jodi Lafontaine of Sisseton, SD and Marsha Lafontaine of Sisseton, SD.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Mamie and Melvin Robertson; son Dale C. Robertson; wife, Gyla Eastman Robertson; brothers, Charles Robertson and Adam Robertson.
