Funeral Service for Gideon C. Shepherd, Hiŋhaŋkaģa Ska "White Owl", 73, of Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at the SWO Community Center, Agency Village, South Dakota. Meal will be served at 11:30 A.M. Officiating will be Pastor Jerome Renville, Pastor Milton Owen, and CRE Gerald Heminger Jr. Pianist will be Billy Kohl and Drum Group will be Old Agency Singers. Pall Bearers will be Lance Haug, Dion Bernard, Asa White, Eddie Rousseau, Leo Soulia, Paul Soulia, Noah Bernard, Isaiah Bernard, Abrey Flute, and Paul Renville. Honorary Pall Bearers will be All of Gideon's Friends, Family, and Dialysis Nurses Jackie, Andrea, Karla, Laura, and Cameo. There will be an All-Night Wake on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the SWO Community Center, Agency Village, South Dakota. Interment will be at the Eagles Wings Baptist Cemetery, Peever, South Dakota. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Gideon C. Shepherd was born on August 31, 1950, in Sisseton, South Dakota to Victoria (Barker) and Solomon Ole Shepherd. He attended school at Flandreau Indian School. He later obtained his certification in Plumbing in Vocational School. He was a member of the Eagles Wing Baptist Church.
Gideon worked at Landsburger's and did farm work for various farmers. He loved old western movies; his favorite was John Wayne. He loved Pow-Wow music and the Minnesota Vikings was his favorite team.
Gideon is survived by his pride and joy grandson Lance Haug; twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; one brother Solomon Charlie Shepherd; one sister Sophronia Crawford; Kim Thompson who he took in as his daughter; ten nephews, three nieces, ota cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, three brothers, four sisters, five nieces, two nephews, and his special friend Joyce Thompson.
