Jerry Anderson
of Britton, SD, passed away on March 7, 2018, at the age of 80 due to complications of pneumonia.
A prayer service and time of remembrance was held at the Foothills Assembly of God Church, Yuma, AZ on March 16, 2018, at 1:00 PM.
Gerald Milfred Anderson was born March 23, 1937 at Enderlin, ND to Chester and Vivian (Bratland) Anderson. He grew up on the family farm near Enderlin and attended Moore Consolidated School. He farmed with his Dad until he enlisted in the U. S. Army in February 1956. He served for 18 months, including time in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm.
On November 1, 1958, Jerry married Anna Schlecht. On December 26, 1959 their son Randall was born. In 1962 the family moved to Lisbon, ND. Jerry worked at the Stake Out and Domm's Propane Service. Their daughter Sherry was born on March 14, 1962. In the fall of 1962 the family moved to Britton, SD, where Jerry worked at the Holiday Lanes and Lounge. Summer days were spent painting with Sid Nelson.
In 1967 he worked at Dalton Docter Feedlot, where he was introduced to hauling livestock. Discovering his passion, Jerry then went to work for Clayton Ross Trucking. In 1980, he bought the livestock-hauling from Clayton, and built the Anderson Trucking business. He sold the company to his trusted employee, Wendell Anderson (no relation) in 2000 and retired.
That's when Jerry and Ann began spending their winters in Yuma, Arizona, where they led a very active social life. As members of the "Old Codgers Cruising Club," they spent many interesting hours exploring the desert and driving in the mountains in their Arctic Cat side by side.
Jerry was a member of First Lutheran Church, Britton, SD. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle. He was always busy in the neighborhood helping others, fixing, tinkering and visiting.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Ann of Britton and Yuma, his children: Rand (Renee) of Annapolis, MD; Sherry (Rory) Iverson of Sisseton, SD. Four grandchildren, Logan(Jenna), Sisseton, Sarah (John) Gamber, Sisseton; Evan Anderson, New Haven, CT; Max Anderson, Arlington, VA. Eight great grandchildren, Boe, Jordan, Harley, Rhett Iverson, Cashton, Brylee and Jade Gamber and Tel Axl Iverson; many nieces, nephews and their families.
