Funeral Service for Gale Marilyn Hansen, 78, of Peever, SD will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at the Peever Lutheran Church, Peever, SD with the Rev. Sheila Pohl officiating. Organist will be Kim Lawrence. Special music will be provided by Kenyon and Melissa Sivels. Pallbearers will be Jeff, John, Todd, Paul, Terry, and Mark Hansen, Derrick, and Lance Patenode . Honorary Pallbearers will be "All of Gale's cousins and friends". There will be a visitation on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD. A private family Inurnment will be at the One Road Bethel Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Gale was born on October 13, 1936 to parents Marion and Edith (Benson) Gunderson at Sisseton, SD. She attended 1st grade at One Road #2 and grades 2nd thru 8th at One Road #1 and then attended Sisseton High School graduating with the Class of 1954. After high school graduation, she attended one year of school at Northern State Teacher's College at Aberdeen, SD and then taught at the Lawrence Twp School for two years near Peever, SD. She was baptized by Rev. Mons Gjerde on November 15, 1936 with sponsors Ole and Beatrice Simonson, Ole Lohre and Julia Benson, confirmed on June 4, 1950 by Rev. Jacob Askeland and married Dorman Hansen on June 13, 1959 all at Bethel Lutheran Church. She has been a member of Peever Lutheran Church for several years now. She then taught school near Arlington, SD while Dorman completed college. They ran Hansen's Café in Peever for a short time along with Dorm's brother Boyd and operated Sandy Beach Resort on Buffalo Lake as well as operating cafes at Fort Dodge, IA and Boone, IA while raising a family. They moved to various places where Dorm's teaching and other job opportunities took them; Watertown, Brookings, Rapid City, Sisseton, Miller, South Shore, SD and Coon Rapids, MN as well as Fort Dodge and Boone IA and have resided at their current home for 21 years. Gale loved to read, cook, bake and in her younger years sang and played guitar and accordion at many school and church programs. Gale passed away peacefully at her home on October 4, 2015.
Gale is survived by her husband Dorman of 56 years, daughter Jana of Sisseton, SD; sons Jeff (Diane) of Forest Lake, MN, Paul of Newburgh, IN, Todd of Watertown, SD, Terry of Wolverton, MN, John (Leah) of Minneapolis, MN, Mark (Sarah) of Anchorage, AK; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; Also survived by brother Roger (Phyllis) Gunderson, sisters Diane (Glen) Johnson, Connie (Doug) Just all of Sisseton, SD; brother-in-law Boyd (Gayle) Hansen of Sisseton, SD and aunt Julie Gunderson of Lima, OH and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Edith Gunderson; grandparents Ole and Beret (Vike) Benson, Gust and Belle (Hanse) Gunderson.
