Graveside Service will be held on June 28, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Valley View Golf Course from 12:00 noon to 4:00 P.M.

Fredrick James Galbraith (Age 78) passed away at Touchmark at All Saints in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on December 27th, 2024.  A Celebration of Fred's Life and inurnment at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery will occur at a later date when family and friends will gather to commemorate his exceptional and remarkable life.  Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Fred was born on November 27, 1946 in Britton, South Dakota to John (Jack) and Helen (Heilman) Galbraith.  Fred was afflicted with the viral disease of polio as a young child.  Despite his affliction, Fred displayed an amazing amount of courage as he faced the lifelong challenges and physical limitations which resulted from polio.  He was an inspiration to his siblings, extended family and to all who knew him.  Fred taught us how to live life, how to face adversity, persevere and continue to put one foot in front of the other no matter what life presented.

Fred graduated from Sisseton High School in 1965.  He went on to attend South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City earning a degree in Physics.  To say that he set the academic bar a little too high for his siblings is an understatement.  In 1969 he accepted a position with Howard Hughes Aircraft in California and worked in the Defense Industry throughout his career, retiring from Raytheon in 2004.

Fred retired to Sioux Falls and continued to enjoy tournament bridge, chess, reading, fishing, visiting with family and friends, taking family trips and watching a variety of sports.  He was a lifelong University of Oklahoma Sooner college football fan and enjoyed the experience of numerous fishing trips to the St. Louis River near Duluth, MN.

Fred is survived by his sister Mary Bunch; brothers Joe (Kelli) Galbraith, Dan (Teresa) Galbraith and Tim (Barb) Galbraith; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Fred is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents Frederick and Clara (Stearns) Galbraith, Christ and Anna (Warner) Heilman; parents John (Jack) and Helen (Heilman) Galbraith; and brother John Christian Galbraith.

Fred's family would like to thank Touchmark in Sioux Falls for the kind and loving care they provided during the past several years and a thank you to Avera@Home Hospice for their care and guidance during his final days.
