Funeral Service for Frances Schrader, 97, of Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. William Schruba officiating. Organist will be Mona Greseth and soloists will be Pat Schubert and Keana Jackson (great granddaughter). Pallbearers will be Alan Hanson, Jim Hanson, Kelly Raguse, Mason Lampe, Koby Jackson, and Jerry Doschadis. Interment will be in the Rolling Hills Memorial Park, Richmond, CA. at a later date. There will be visitation on Sunday, March 27, 2011 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Cahill Funeral Chapel. There will be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Monday. Frances was born on June 7, 1913 in Corona, SD to Anton and Ida (Frederick) Buttke.
Frances was the sixth child of eight and the fourth girl. She attended country school and after her education she continued to live in Corona, SD until she was united in marriage to Winford Schrader in 1937 in Browns Valley, MN. They lived in Beardsley and Browns Valley before moving to Peever. While living in Peever they milked cows, raised crops and Winnie worked as a blacksmith. In 1959 they moved their family to California to the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1966 they moved to North Highland a suburb of Sacramento where Winnie worked as a blacksmith and Frances cleaned houses for several families. They joined the Zion Lutheran Church in North Highland and Frances became involved in the sewing circle making many quilts and other crafts. She loved to cook and one could make a meal on her yeast buns and her famous lemon meringue pie. She loved to garden and always had a big vegetable patch with many fruit trees and berry bushes as well. In 2005, they moved to Greenleaf Assisted Living Center, Sisseton, SD to be closer to their daughter, Arlene. In July 2010 they moved to the Tekakwitha Living Center. Frances always had a dry wit and her one line come backs continued until the end. France's faith remained strong throughout her life and her love and commitment to Winnie was evident to all who observed them. Frances lived a long and fulfilling life filled with love. Frances passed away on March 23, 2011 at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD.
Frances is survived by her husband, Winford Schrader of Sisseton, SD; two daughters, Arlene and husband, Calvin Hanson of Peever, SD, and Janice Stewart of Clearlake, CA; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and three brothers.
