Obituary

Funeral services for Floyd Cyril Hayes, Mniwanca akan Inajin Hoksina Tanka, "Stands on the sea big boy", 83, of Agency Village, SD will be Monday, May 18, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Sisseton Wahpeton Traditional Burial Grounds. Officiating will be Jr. Heminger and LaVern BlackThunder. Pallbearers will be Corwin BlueDog, Wakinyan Janise, Randall BlueDog, Charlie Vermillion, Lyndon BlueDog, Travis Herrick, Tom DeCoteau Jr., and Eric Jens Sr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Russell Smith, Moses Keeble, Henry Iyarpeya, Morris Spider, Clifton Feather, Arnold Goodbird, Duane Hislaw, and all of Floyd's relatives and friends. Military Rites will be provided by the Kit Fox Society and the Drum will be Dakota Nation. There will be a viewing at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 and 12:00 P.M. to services at the Church. All Covid 19 precautions will be strictly followed . The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.

Floyd C. Hayes was born to Alfred D. Hayes and Annie Johnson-Hayes on March 6, 1937. He attended the Enemy Swim Day School until eighth grade. He worked for rural farmers until he join the Navy.  Floyd served from December 16, 1955 until March 13, 1957.

He came back to the Sisseton area and made his home in Agency Village until he made his journey to the spirit world. He was a gentle man, very kind and caring. His favorite past time was watching game shows, playing solitaire and gambling. Floyd comes from a grass root family of who spoke the language fluently. He supported family members who sang and danced. He also went to support his brothers who played moccasin. He was a very quiet man with humbleness, he thought of others before himself. He will be greatly missed by family and all who knew him. Floyd is survived by his brother Joseph and a sister Caroline, many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Florestine, and Estella, three brothers, Archie, Ernest, and Andrew.
