Honoring our Mother on her 85th Birthday, February 1, 2015 Wacinyapiwin "Depend Upon Woman" Florestine "Tina" White Daughter of Daniel and Rebecca Williams.
The family of Tina would like to honor her by sharing a few of her life's accomplishments and unselfish deeds by honoring her on her 85th birthday.
Tina's 12 children: Darrell, Jacky, David, Michealine, Raymond Jr., Ronald, Randall, Becky, Alberta, Darwin, Richard and Dean Abraham Sr.
Our Mother graduated from the University of Minnesota at Morris, Minnesota in 1979. She majored in American History and a minor in Child Psychology and Drug and Alcohol Prevention.
Our Mother worked many various jobs, just to mention a few; Nurses aid at the Indian Health Hospital, taught Dakota Language, SWHA housing and cook at Tekakwitha Children's Home. Tina enjoys cooking and opened her own catering business. She cooked for the annual SWO Pow-Wow, Earth day event, OEP workshops, and numerous other special events. Our Mother enjoys making star quilts and is very good at it. She makes beautiful star quilts and donates them to families who lost a loved one or the honoring of an individual. She is always willing to give and help out no matter what the situation may be. She is well known for her cooking, families will request her to make pies, salads, or hotdishes for their doings.
Our Mother was the founder of the annual "Veterans Pow Wow". When she lived in the Old Agency housing she hosted the first Veterans Pow Wow at her home. She became the Honorary Clan Mother of the Kit Fox Society. Because of her initiative to honor the Veterans, today it is known as the "United Veterans Pow Wow".
Our Mother is a very compassionate individual. During the holidays, she organizes and holds community Thanksgiving dinners every year. She invites everyone who wants to come and enjoy a nice home cooked meal. During Christmas, she prepares a meal and has a community gift giving event. She wraps all kinds of gift in preparation to assure she has a gift for everyone who may attend. She would rent a hall big enough to hold a large crowd and decorate a tree and place all the gifts under it. All her hard work and preparation would be at her own expense with what little income she receives. In Our eyes she is the greatest Mother!
With the greatest respect for our mother, we submit this tribute in her honor. The Children of Tina. Darrell, Jacky, David, Ray Jr., Ronald, Randall, Richard and Dean Sr.
