Obituary

Funeral Mass for Ferdinand " Ferdy" William Hoss, 77 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Fr. Tony Dummer as Celebrant. Organist will be Cindy Marohl and song leader will be Sherman Hannasch. Pallbearers will be Joe Schneider Jr., Alec O'Farrell, Aaron W. Hoss, Cody J. Hoss, Merton Moe, and Bill Haubris Sr. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Ferdy's family, friends, and his dice shaking buddies. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be visitation on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 2:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Ferdinand William Hoss was born on May 31, 1936 to Frank and Susan (Ott) Hoss at the Powell Hospital in Sisseton, SD. He attended 1st grade at New Effington Independent School. When he was seven the family moved to a farm by Sisseton where he attended a rural school in Grant Township for a year. He then attended St. Peter's Catholic School for a couple of years and finished grade school in a country school. He attended Sisseton High School and graduated in 1954. Following graduation he farmed with his father. He was drafted into the United States Army on May 11, 1960 and served until May 18, 1962; He received Sharpshooter (RifleM-L0 and Marksman (Carbine) Medals. After his discharge he returned to farming with his father until his father' death in 1974 and then he farmed on his own. Ferdy was united in marriage to Linda Moe on September 20, 1969 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. On the farm they raised grain, dairy cattle and pigs. Ferdy loved to shake 6-5-4- with friends at Jemm's. Ferdy was a member of the Otto-Quande Renville American Legion Post #50, Hills and Valley Riding Club for over twenty five years, St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Ferdy entered the Tekakwitha Living Center early September. Linda and family spent every day with him. He kept his shy smile and friendly personality. He was known for his sense of humor and hard work. He never ducked out, if it needed doing, he did it. He passed his humor and work ethics on to his sons. He was a much loved husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed so much. Ferdy passed away on October 6, 2013 at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD, surrounded by his family.
Ferdinand is survived by his wife, Linda of Sisseton, SD; two sons, Frank and wife, Sophie Hoss of Sisseton, SD, and Bill and wife, Renae Hoss of Watertown, SD, five grandchildren, Marci, Aaron, Cody, Alec and Brooklyn and one great grandson, Joel.
Ferdinand was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Wenzel Hoss and a sister-in-law Ardyce Hoss.
