Obituary

Funeral Mass for Eugene Edward Sebek, 86, of Claire City, SD will be Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Peters Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Celebrant Rev. Fr. Toni Dummer OMI. Organist will be Colette Hull, with song leader Sherman Hannasch. Pallbearers will be Michael Sebek, Andrew Sebek, Lee Sebek, Dana Stapleton, Tanner Stapleton, Hope Stapleton, Julie Stapleton, Bonnie Sebek, Denise Swenson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Claire City Fire Department and the Soil Conservation Board. Interment will be in the St. Peters Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be Visitation on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 6-7 P.M. with a 7 P.M. Prayer Service at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Eugene Edward Sebek was born on November 15, 1925 in Claire City, SD to Edward and Rose (Prihoda) Sebek. Eugene grew up and attended grade school at Norway Township Country School and graduated from Claire City High School in 1942. He married Chantel Houde on October 30, 1954 in Webster, SD. They lived in the Frank Lipovsky Apartments in Claire City. In 1956 they purchased the Albert Ulstad Farm in rural Claire City, SD, where he farmed until his retirement. Eugene enjoyed restoring old tractors, fixing up machinery, drinking coffee with friends, and collecting toy tractors. He also enjoyed the area Threshing Bees. Eugene was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Veblen, SD, and served on the church council. Eugene was a founding member of the Coteau des Prairies Hospital and was Secretary for the Farmers Elevator in Claire City, SD. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Lidgerwood, ND, and he helped remodel the building that is now the Farmers Inn Café, Claire City, SD. He was a member of the Soil Conservation Board, was the township clerk, and a member of the Claire City Fire Department. He entered the Tekawitha Nursing Center, Sisseton, SD in November of 2009, and he passed away on April 15, 2012 at the Nursing Center. Chantel passed away on January 13, 2012.
Eugene is survived by brother, Leo (Karen) Sebek, Claire City, SD, brother in-law, John Hatle, Webster, SD, two nephews, Mike (Bonnie) Sebek, Claire City, SD, and Timothy (Becky) Hatle of Princeton, MN; three nieces Julie (Dana) Stapleton, Sisseton, SD, Marcia Hayes, of California, and Roberta Helmbrecht of Benson, MN; and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Chantel Sebek, brother, Edward Sebek, and sister, Angeline Burkholder and sister-in law Angeline Hatle.
